6.5 Creedmore

The only thing savage on this thread will certainly be some of the comments! lol.

For the record, no personal experience with either the fun or caliber but know several people that love the caliber for up to medium sized game. That being said my brother shot a whitetail with his and wasn’t impressed seeing as how it took a hit right behind the shoulder and needed a follow up with his 30-06 to bring the deer down. No idea of what bullets he was shooting but if it had been anyone else telling me this I’d laugh and call them a liar. My brother wouldn’t BS a story like that.

What is everyone’s take on a Savage 6.5 Creedmore?
I have had 2(still have one) they have been very accurate, but really wish the one we have was a tikka instead. I over committed on the one we have (it’s my wife’s rifle) but it’s the ultralite in an xlr, so I spent too much to get rid of it. It has been a decent rifle, but I hate the accutrigger, it’s a lot rougher running, and the savage action is just fugly. Unless you get a really good deal, I would get a tikka

Savages are fine, I like Tikka better but they seem to reliably go bang and are accurate enough for lots of uses. I wouldnt buy one, but when I buddy of mine was looking for a sub $500 gun I pointed him toward one.

I’ve killed a bunch of big mule deer and antelope with a 6.5 Creedmore from ranges of 75yds to 400yds. Great caliber. I’ve got a Weatherby Vanguard and Winchester model 70 featherweight.

6.5 creed is solid. I don't like savage rifles and wouldn't touch that scope.

I don't like Savage rifles. But they work.

I like 6.5cm a lot.

If you like the gun, buy it and sell the scope. Put something better on it.

I’m gonna go plus 1 for tikka. I have one in .270 and it flat out shoots. Mine is consistently 3/4” or less with most factory ammo I’ve shot out of it. I couldn’t imagine a time in 6.5 shooting less than that. Plus, their actions are like butter! And you can change out the stock easily to get more out of the tikka in way of accuracy

I can get the Savage used in camo with a Banner scope for 365 is that a decent deal? Not mch on a Banner scope
Which model? If it’s an axis, then no. If it’s a 110 based model or similar then yes.

I don’t care for, and wouldn’t buy, an axis. But I have had several 110s and shot a bunch. They are ugly, clunky, and the accutrigger is stupid, but all have shot extremely well. Especially a 110 Engage Hunter 6.5 CM we have.

My son shoots a 110 Hunter in 6.5CM. It's a pretty solid rifle. The only complaint I've heard from others is the stock. I am not a good enough marksman to tell the difference.

Thank you

Thanks for the imput
I think I’d buy a 300 rifle and get an SWFA scope instead of that package
i have a 300 win mag. I had surgery so wanting to down size

I get that. In my opinion the scope matters more than the rifle and that banner scope you mention will not work well at anything unless you are shooting 50-100yards. I’d focus more on a scope you can afford than the rifle. I’d personally get a ruger American if you want to go inexpensive

I agree 100%. Id rather have a 50.00 gun and a 100.00 scope. But I have a Leupold. Im looking at recoil after having brain surgery

If recoil is the issue you need to go smaller yet. 223 ideally:
