I got the Savage Axis in 270 with banner scope for my older son a few years back. I replaced the scope, but ended up using the banner to sight in a muzzy with no issue.
This year I got my younger son a Ruger American in 6.5cm. I like it better than the Savage.

Things to consider with the Savage:
The safety - I don't particularly like the safety and have found it incidentally moved
Is the barrel threaded and does that matter, I wish ours was now.
The magazine doesn't always lock in right and can cause an issue.
It has been an accurate gun

Here is my savage 110 ultra light in 6.5 creed 10 shot group. It shoots better than I can shoot it.

I have 2 savage 110’s (308 & 243). One has an accustock and the other is an older model with a basic plastic stock. Both have the accutrigger. Both are good tac drivers. I sometime get tired of the accutriggers and think about switching them out, but it’s hard to justify when they keep working and shooting well. Never have had any feeding issues and the bolts cycle smooth enough for me. For most people, they will serve as a good rifle at a decent price point.

I won a tikka 6.5 creedmoor 2 years ago at a gun bash. I have shot 15 deer with it since. Love the caliber. Not much experience with savage rifles.
