6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

I have a new Tikka 6.5 PRC to shoot this week, and those are the two I'm hoping it likes.

147 ELDm looking good (especially since this is less than 20 rounds down the tube). Hope to try the 127 LRX soon - none available in my neck of the woods but I have some flying in with visitors.

Sent from my buddy who got this pronghorn today. I’ve been slowly converting him over to small heavy for caliber bullets and mentality. He still had not converted his scope over yet- running a vortex LHT. Said it was off six inches at 220, and he’s already looking for a new scope.

6.5 creed
Factory 143 ELD-X
220 yards

He said the guide was talking smack about the 6.5 before he shot it. Results speak for themselves.

Was suggested to post my kill here, sorry no gory pics on this one.

T3x 6.5prc
147 ELDM Hornady load.

100yd offhand shot.

He stood up slightly canted off center and I shot him in the chest. Bullet went thru his heart and one lung, absolutely shattered his left shoulder in fragments. Exit hole was back of the armpit bigger than a golf ball. He went no more than 10 yards.

The damage from that energy was astounding (first time killing with that bullet).

Here's another antelope for the thread.
147 eldm going about 2265fps (475yds from a 6.5cm)
Top of the lungs had an inch hole in the entrance side and about 1.5 in on backside.

Entrance 3in behind shoulder centered on a rib.
Exit about 1.5in into shoulder also in a rib.

Finally have something else to add here, Harvested a ~120 lb hog last night at 150 ish yards with my 16.5" 260 AI, used a fireforming load with a 140 SMK at about 2480 FPS M/V. He spun about 2 feet from where I hit him and he was done. Not the bullet I intended to use but a good hit and great result.

I can add a caribou to this. No damage pics though.

6.5CM
2600MV
147 ELD-M
280YD

Entry behind the near shoulder, exit through the scapula nuckle on the offside. I found the copper jacket against the hide. Exit wound through the shoulder was approximately golf ball size. Bloodshot viscera around both shoulders. The copper jacket was largely intact, with the front half peeled back into sharp petals. I did not notice if the lead core remained before I lost the bullet on the ground. It looked about the same as others I have previously recovered.

The animal was basically DRT at the impact.

Found this data today. The .264 Win mag and the 6.5 WSM have nearly identical performance, with the latter having a longer neck and being better suited for longer bullets. However, a 107 TMK at these velocities has significantly less recoil than the 140s.

Quick comparison... The 147 has slightly better downrange velocity, drop, and windage, however, it also packs 8 extra ft. lbs of recoil. At "normal" hunting distances of 300-400 yards, it's essentially a tie, proving again that BC isn't everything.

I have no personal experience (yet) but I think a 107 TMK at those velocities would be devastating. Not sure I’d want to try that on something I planned to eat…
