6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

Very nice. Great to know. Not too heavy ?

Not heavy with stats but kinda feels heavy in hand if that makes sense. It's 8lbs 4.5oz with a Huron mounted and a 3.5oz brake for the suppressor. So a hair over 8 lbs really isn't terrible. Didn't really notice it carrying around the mountains though.

How do you like the Hunter model and how much does it weigh if you don't mind me asking? Seems like a lot of gun for the money.

Been thinking of starting a 270/6.8 success thread. Should do that today.

I love it. A Mk V was a grail gun of mine and I haven’t been let down. I haven’t weighed it, but according to Weatherby it’s 7.3lbs. When I shot that cow it had a Vortex on it, I’ve since but a NF NSX 3.5-15 on it. When I first bought it I considered finding a “nicer” stock, but then it shot like this: so I’m at least smart enough to leave it alone. I’ve included a pic of how it sits now.

Thanks, they sure know how to make a great gun. A Mark V is my grail gun too in 270 Wby too but a lefty. The 6.5 RPM is intriguing as well.

If anyone has a 16-18” tikka 6.5 CM they want to rehome please send me message. I’ve been searching classifieds and armslist.

Also does anyone know if the 2025 tikkas t3x lite will come in shorter barrels? I know they will be threaded.

I am pretty sure the shortest barrel option for the 6.5 Creed will be 20". It will be threaded, however.

You could purchase one of the regular 6.5 Creed barrels in the classifieds and then send it off to have it chopped and threaded. Kampfeld charges $170 to chop, add a collar, thread, and give you a fitted thread protector. Decent turnaround as well.

I’ve been looking at barrels in the classifieds. Thanks for the kampfeld reference too.

If 20” is shortest then I might as well pick up a non threaded t3x and get going

Does anyone have any experience with a sig cross? Their new lineups come with proof carbon barrel at 6.5 lbs. seems like an easy path for a great folding rifle?

Hey everyone, So I made the switch from a 30-06 to a 6.5 CM a few years ago. I am definitely enjoying the lighter recoil out of it especially in a light weight mountain gun.

But I have noticed that I haven’t had one exit hole on any of the kills. Everything has died quickly and similar to the larger Caliber. Some of the kills are deer/elk/moose/bear. Shooting 140 eldm and a 180 Accubond for the 30-06

I know that the accubond should penetrate deeper hence the exit holes. But I hunt some extremely thick bush and a nice blood trail from a good exit hole can be a huge benefit when they run a bit.

So I am curious of anyone would recommend switching back to a Accubond in the 6.5. Curious what everyone thinks of this scenario

IMHO it's a tradeoff, getting an exit means you're doing less damage and creating a smaller wound channel to retain weight and continue penetration, thus making it more likely for a slower death. A more frangible bullet may not exit, but is creating upwards of 2x the wound channel diameter and tissue damage. You might try the ELD-X with the interlocked base, they fragment well but also sometimes get the base to exit on closer shots. Or try the Accubonds, they've worked well for me in the past, I just understand the differences in performance by design now and prefer damage > penetration.

What distances are you shooting them at?

100% of that seems completely reasonable. Seems like the X may be a good bridge for him.

I've liked the terminal ascent bullet. But out of nearly 20 animals in the past couple years with 6.5creeds, only 1 was with the TA. The rest have been with the 140eld. I think the 140eld kills quicker, but like you... I haven't had reliable exits. TA gives good exits though, and is a very accurate factory ammo option I've found.

All ranged from 30 yards to 350

I shot a small mule deer that was facing me at 50 yards right in the chest with 143 ELDX. No exit wound and he went less than 50 yds. I shot 2 large mule deer bucks between 350-400 yards and both were 1 shot kills with large exit wounds. Last year I shot 2 cow elk between 300-400 yards both were broadside 1 shot kills with exit wounds. I shot a coyote facing me at 200 yards and the 143 ELD-X completely gutted it. You might try ELD-X and see if it works better for you. My barrel is cut to 18" and I'm getting 2,400FPS.

The 143 ELDX has given me an exit on the last two deer I shot. One was about 75y and the other was about 200y both broadside shots.

If a guy is looking for an exit wound say 400 yards and in, what are the thoughts on a nosler partition? 125 or 140?
To me the front half should frag fairly well, and the back half exit?
Is a 125 out of a 6.5 prc going to have wound channel closer to a match bullet, or a bonded type bullet? Or is the 140 preferred here? Im thinking the 125 will have less recoil and easier shot spotting?

There's not a lot of difference between the 125 and 140 gr Partitions. You might see a slight advantage with the 140 but maybe not. Both are great bullets. The 140 gr Accubond asked about earlier is excellent too.
