6.5 creed magnum

My only issue is that they charged me flat rate shipping x5 (bought some of each type) so it better all end up shipping individually or they need to refund me the difference. I understand why they are doing it that way but $70 in shipping is a little over the top.

Yeah I think it’s only on firearms with the free shipping, ammo is all flat rate shipping.

I'm not upset about paying for ammo shipping but I just don't think paying 5x shipping just because it is pre-order is right unless each type is sent individually. Irregardless, I'm excited to see the ammo in my hand and shoot it in the half dozen 6.5 Creedmoor rifles we have. Depending on how they work in the 24", 22", and 20" barrels I'll decide on if it is worth it to go down to 16" on one for me. Based on my experience with the 7mm Backcountry and the quoted velocity with within 50 fps of actual velocities seen for the stated barrel length.

That what I’m concerned about, and no way it won’t have more recoil reguardless of what they try to tell people. Can’t defy physics no matter how good the marketing is.
It has more recoil from the higher velocity, not pressure. but less than PRC because of the lower powder volume.

This whole development has really put me in a spot. Here I was, finally settled on a 6 creed, but now we have this whole new possibility.

I’m still leaning toward 6 creed, but the lower practice cost of 6.5 practices ammo + the possibility of using peak ammo has me thinking. Thoughts anyone?

I think its a pretty good bet 6CM +Peak is coming.

However, 6CM is not borderline on velocity with heavies the way 6.5CM is so the improvement likely wont be as stark as 6.5.

I'm skeptical given the amount of overbore that's already there.
6C is certainly not the "perfect" candidate that 6.5 is. agreed.
But 6C has all of the other attributes that make it viable compared to older cartridges(if those attributes are part of Fed's decision-making)
And people will buy it if they make it.......and Fed is a business.

Combined with PXT........

I know right.

I finally have my ultimate line-up coming together: Tikka's in .223, 6CM, and 6.5 PRC, and this PEAK ammo drop completely catches me off guard. I'm watching with much interest. I don't plan to make changes, and I don't NEED any more performance, but it is interesting.

If the PEAK factory ammo shoots well, it will be hard not to recommend a .223 and 6.5 CM to anyone else that is just getting started. That said, I bet we see PEAK tech with 6CM and 6.5 PRC eventually.

Just realized I can also preorder the 156gr EOL +Peak ammo too. Adding that into my preorder for the 153gr TMK +Peak today.

Exactly, 6.5PRC still does what it always has so in most cases it doesnt make much sense to get rid of one for a Creed.

But if you already have a creed or are looking to buy new, PRC no longer(assuming everything comes together the way Fed says) holds any advantage.

Only problem I have is I don’t reload.

I shoot 140gr tipped fusion from 6.5prc. Get about 2840 from 20” barrel.

They don’t make 155 tipped fusion yet for PRC. And only person loading 153tmk is UM. 205$ for 50. Over 4 dollars a round.

153tmk from creed is 50fps faster than UM loaded PRC. And it’s 40$ for 20. 2 dollars a round.

Decisions decisions.

Just wait, factory loadings for the new 153 TMK for 6.5 prc will come, as I expect that is one of the target clamberings for that bullet.

I was in the similar boat. Starting my transition to shorter barrels and figured I’ll go 18 in 6.5 prc to make up for the velocity loss from my 24in 6.5 cm. The Peak 153 tmks put me over to the edge to keep my 6.5cm barrel and send it to get chopped and threaded.

@dreamingWest that’s pretty much the set up I’ve been moving towards, less a 270 and 30-06 that I just like.
Frankly both the 6 and 6,5 fit the bill as is, so as a practical matter, I’m probably just overthinking it.
But to @bnewt3 ‘s point, the idea of a 6.5 creed where good old brass still works but you can up the speed if needed is indeed compelling.
To boil it down, peak brings the 6.5 into a similar ballistic realm of 6 creed, meaning the remaining question is: is the additional bullet weight and recoil increase worth the squeeze?
My gut says it’s splitting hairs
