I got another AB raptor 8 in the normal configuration they ship typically (IE 3" bull barrel reflex). Since I already have one of those I was thinking of swapping out the reflex for a 5" sporter version to get the max volume in that chamber. Curious who has experience with the longer 5" bull or sporter and any comparison impressions versus shorter reflex and/or direct thread?

I don't have multiple so I can't compare, but I'm very happy with my 5" bull reflex on my Raptor 10. I was going for max suppression and still wanted flexibility to put on any barrel.

I speculate that there must be some point of diminishing returns with more reflex size. It would probably depend on the calibers you're shooting as well. I've found AB to be helpful when I've called. Put in a call and ask them for their opinion based on your setup.

I have one, but have never used it. I ran the 3” for a while then went to direct mount due to running them on pistols. Too lazy to put the reflex back on for rifle use. From looking at data a 3” reflex is equal to 2 baffles sound wise. So I would expect the 5” to be quieter again.

Have Raptor 8 with 5” reflex. I don’t have comparison to 3” reflex. It has markedly better suppression than direct mount on both 6.5 cm & 280 AI.
I would recommend without reservation.

Same. I have 8 and 5”. It does better than my other 4 suppressors. And because alot is over barrel it handles well.

Looks a bit funky but you get over that

I have the same set up. I really like having the full size reflex when I’m at the range. It is very very functional. I shoot flush when I’m out hunting, and it has been surprisingly quiet.

It looks freaking huge, and honestly, I’ve had other guys at the range think that I’m shooting a 13 inch barrel. So it does look a little different, but I actually think it’s really cool.

If I had to buy it again, I would get the exact same set up

The UM/US OG release and testing threads has got me looking at the AB Raptor 8 with a reflex. I must be an idiot, but I can't seem to find testing results online. Any help would be most appreciated.

Look up absupressor on YouTube. They have several videos with actual db testing, not the usual, this sounds good.

I have one. Love it. It is better than my other 4 suppressors. I love how the reflex balances the rifle and it only adds about 5” of length.

It always performs well on all the testing.

What is the pink wrap for? I just got my first silicone suppressor cover, but I only got to shoot it once.

I am waiting for an AB 8 with a 3" bull reflex section.

Covers the little bit of supressor not covered by the silicone cover and also prevents cover from sliding with recoil.

I’m also interested in this topic. I just went ahead and ordered the OG, but for a lot of the shooting I do, a Raptor 8 or 10 with 5” reflex sounds interesting and useful.

have you shot with your 5" reflex yet

My first can was a Raptor 10 with a 3" reflex. I went through the same decision and ended up calling them to discuss it. The guy I got on the phone was super helpful back then and told me the 3" is the sweet spot and it's sort of the tipping point of diminishing returns where more would help but at the expense of weight and doesn't quiet it down like the first 3" does.

I'm happy with my 3" but following along. I wouldn't mind an 8 but really don't care for a 30cal can anymore.

So I now have a caveat to this. The one thing that I don’t like about having the 5 inch reflex is that I can’t have a 16 inch barrel and a Rokstock with this because the 5 inch reflex would hit the front of the Rokstock. I ended up going with a 17 1/2 inch barrel and that gives me about 3/4 of an inch of clearance which is more than enough but with that said I wish I could go with a 16 inch barrel and shave off the length.

I got a 5" sporter reflex for giggles, seems fine. Frankly I haven't gone out of my way to compare it vs the 3 or directly compare against direct thread (though I have shot the same gun direct thread and with 5" reflex). The point being as the shooter its not an earth shattering difference. I'm sure its quitter if I took the time to compare though.

There are comparable / better? (sound wise) options out there that are lighter/shorter now though so buying another raptor wouldn't be at the top of my list if not needing 30cal.
