45-70 Subsonic load data

I'm doing a similar but different subsonic build. I have a 458 socom barrel for my tikka action and will be shooting the 500gr maker and 410gr sub-x bullets like some of you.

@WKR @Nine Banger @Bluefish What distance are you all zeroing at? Is there a functional zero for subs that makes the most sense?
Mine is zeroed at 100 and I use the reticle for hold overs (or hold unders in this case) for anything 50 yards and in

I like 80 yards. That gives a point blank out to 100. Beyond that no matter the zero, drop becomes an issue quickly for point blank.

I tried subs one night for coyotes. Didn’t work well as we were usually beyond 100 and drop changes quickly and needs to be adjusted maybe as much as every 25 yards.

Thank you both. I’ll play around with my ballistics table and see what makes the most sense.

CVA Scout 17 gr. of Accurate 9 shooting the Maker Rex 500 gr. bullet. Plan on deer hunting with it a time or 2 this season.IMG_4916.jpegIMG_4920.jpeg

45-70 Govt

500gr Maker Rex

18.0gr Lil Gun

2.500” COAL

Fed 210

This is what I’ve been doing. May not be the best but have been pretty consistent for me. And deer do not appreciate the 500gr Rex

I don't have a 45-70 but do quite a bit of sub loads for 450 bushmaster among other calibers. I have found tight group to work well for subs and it's pretty easy to source.

How were your groups with the Sub-X bullets? I recently found Unique on the shelf at my LGS. Will look at N330.

Just getting around to zeroing they are 3MOA. Keep in mind its pistol powder and a very low case fill.

The N330 smells bad. With the bullpup action right by my nose and mouth shooting it is like riding around with my great aunt and her "camel filters" with the windows rolled up.

The 80 yard zero makes sense:

Your coyote experience makes sense too. I'm thinking these drops basically make it an armadillo gun.
