3x9x42 Nightforce SHV vs Tract Toric 2.5x15x44

I only have experience with the 3-10x42 SHV, but I really like it. Mine has held up through a good bit of hard use, and I've never had trouble aiming at critters from 25 to 300 yards. Mine has the MOAR reticle, and I just wish NF offered the scope with a mil reticle, maybe with thicker stadia lines for easier sighting in poor light.

The lack of reticle choices in the SHV has kept me from purchasing one, honestly. Offer a 3-10x42 in a mil-type reticle and I’m on it!😃

I agree! The MOAR reticle is usable for my purposes but if NF made a 3-10 SHV with Maven's SHR-Mil reticle or something similar, I think that would be my ideal scope.

Not familiar with the Maven? I have an AR-10 with a Trijicon Credo 3-9x40 with a “mil square”reticle that is growing on me. I’m looking for a tough scope for a M85 Finnlight in 300 WM andI think that (apart from the reticle) the Baby SHV would be a perfect fit?
Suppose I ought to buy another Credo or an Accupoint and call it good. I’d just really like to try a Nightforce.

I suspect you'd be happy with either the SHV or Trijicon. I have an Accupoint 3-9x40 as well, and I like it, though I find the Nightforce more forgiving in use. The SHV is a little more comfortable optically, though the NF reticle is quite fine compared to the mil square on the Trijicon. Both have taken some pretty hard drops (that SHV is on my mountain goat rifle and has met granite at speed). Price and weight both go in favor of the Accupoint tho.

If you had to choose between these 2 scopes, what would you pick? Theyre similar price points, both SFP. Similar in eye relief, etc etc. Im aware of NF reputation for durability, Tract claims they are as durable.

The only reason i would even begin to pick the Toric with its unproven record is due to the 15x high end magnification while maintaining the low end.

I want a scope that dials reliably, rugged within reasonable expectations, and that i can dial to shoot for sure 500 to 550yds on deer and elk....and maybe 600yds if pushed and conditions are perfect. In short, my biggest concern is the 10 power on the NF wont be enough for 600yds shots i may never take, but idk, what do yall think?

And before anyone asks, no i dont want the 4x14x50 or 56mm NF shv due to it not being available in the Forceplex reticle, and 98% of my deer shot since moving west have been 30 to 70yds away on loggin roads. I want that wider field of view at low power for those fast shots on critters in the timber.

And yes ive looked at Trijicons, but the 2.2 to 3 inch eye relief scare me away. And yes, i practice shooting at 500, and have even shot a deer at 524. Drilled him 3 for 3.
I have been a nightforce guy owning 11 nightforce scopes but 5 days ago I bought a Tract 2.5x15 2nd focal plane scope and here I's what I see. Both are heavey robust but the difference is the glass.Tract blows the others away side by side in low light and especially crisp and clearness.I had 2 hunting partners who only own NF to both said they will by Tract now so all 3 of us agreed and honestly was not close AND they are 300 dollars cheaper.I don't care about the 300.00 but plain and simple Tract is visually better in every way infact myself and my buddies are ordering Tract scopes Friday.
Anyone comparing these side by side will go Tract and by no means am I saying NF is bad just simply Tract is better for sure.
I have 2 anthlon Cronus scopes as well the Tract is better visually too.

I own and use both of these optics. The tract has very good glass to my eye. I haven’t dropped it but it has held zero and tracks accurately. I like the simple reticle also. I use it on a 223 that me and my son use for long range and positional shooting practice. With that being said all of my hunting rifles wear a Nightforce. I have had too many failures with other optics to trust anything else for my hunting or match rifles. I have the shv 3-10 on a kimber mt ascent because I wanted the capped turrets. I made my own zero stop for the shv so I can put the caps on while it is strapped to my pack and then take the elevation cap off if I want to while I’m hunting.

Just realized this post is year and a half old. Oh well hopefully someone finds the info useful.
