I have deemed the 325 wsm the best cartridge for me personally with my hunting. I bought a browning a bolt mountain ti and think it is too light for me. I am shooting around 1.25” groups with it and can’t get much better with the occasional 2.5 inch flier. So I can’t shoot as well as I want with it to 400 yards in field positions. I want a little more weight in a new 325.

Do you think I’d be better off buying a model 70 extreme weather or putting a new barrel on a rem 700 300 wsm.
I only want 325 and these are the two choices I’m stuck with

Do you have a brake on the Browning?

I know this rifle shoots better than I can, it’s just tough to hold dead steady like slightly heavier rifles. I believe it’s 5.75 pounds before the scope

some of it could be recoil apprehension (light rifle and mag caliber). i didn't feel like i was flinching but didn't get great groups out of my tikka lite 300wsm and had a brake put on it. haven't shot it yet since but not being as worried about recoil i think will help.

i also got a better stock (roughly same weight but nice comb/cheekpiece on it) and that should help also. you could get a 'better' and slightly heavier stock.

If you’re able, try shooting a 223 or something else with less recoil while you’re waiting for your 325’s barrel to cool between groups, you may learn some things about your technique. If that doesn’t work you should probably just send me the 325 for proper disposal🤣

big Browning fan here,,but many are saying the Browning will tighten up groups by removing the brake

I put a bell and Carlson stock on it that I like quite a bit. I have a savage 16 300 wsm that shoots 3 shot groups that can be covered by a penny (with two certain loads) I just struggle to get all the “wiggle” out of it, even when shooting from prone

I think it could be a MOA shooter, just not with me pulling the trigger.
The occasional fliers I general know weren’t good because the crosshairs wander a little bit when I’m squeezing the trigger. I just want to go back to a normal weight rifle

Between your choices the m70 has notably more mag space which would be helpful in a 325 wsm.

A buddy has a Kimber Montana in 325, swore by it, I was impressed with the round on paper, so when I saw Mile High had a HS Precision in 325 WSM on clearance a few years back, I jumped on it. Love it, shoots Nosler factory ammo with 200AB’s into little .3 MOA or smaller groups. And has put the hurt on a few moose and brown bear. Really is a great round.

I think the 325 is a great cartridge. Everyone gets to caught up with BC’s. I won’t shoot game passed 400 yards and usually within 150 so BC means very little to me. On paper, treads on the heals of a .338

I have the same rifle. Great gun that packs a big punch. I sent mine off and had a vias muzzle break put on it to tame it up a bit as it was a bit fierce recoil wise. This helped me getting settled in behind it. I'm shooting just factory ammo from Double Tap 200 grain barnes TTSX and can get 0.75 to 0.5 MOA if I do my part right.

I’m not a fan of muzzle breaks. Will get a couple trips to the range before season to figure it out. If I can’t, looks like the ol savage 300 short mag will get to take another trip

Well, .55” with factory 200 grain BT. She’s head to Wyoming too. Now I just have to decide which rifle will be primary.
