I don't think it's a good idea to cut a magnum barrel off and keep the same load. There is no sense using more powder that will never completely burn. So, I'd create a new load just for the short barrel.
At some point, it would make more sense to buy a separate gun for brush, that's shorter lighter and with a different scope and no brake required. Perhaps a 308 or similar that won't lose much velocity with the shorter length.
Then, keep the 300 WSM where you know length won't be an issue.
