300 Win Mag recommendations… Thank you!!!

I'm a Browning fan, having used their rifles and shotguns for almost 50 years. The X-Bolt Speed in .300 WinMag, checks nearly all your boxes. Synthetic stock, Cerakote, muzzle brake, recoil is less than an '06. And MSRP of $1479.

Thanks to all for their suggestions. I ended up with a great deal on a Weatherby MKV Hunter. Ordered the $60 accu brake on Weatherbys site. Total weight 8lbs 10oz. With Leupold VX5, Leupold rail and rings.
10 oz heavier than my Weatherby SS 30-06.

Hopefully it shoots good. Planning on 180gr for elk/ mule deer hunt. Suggestions on 180gr elk ammo?

By far the best shooting rifle I have. There are a couple things I do not like about it. But I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest purchase with the highest regards.

From what I hear, Tikka is hard to beat for the price. I do t have one though. I think that is what I would get if I was buying factory.
Bergara just came out with a new rifle with a carbon stock. Looks cool but is $2000 msrp.

Hello all…

I currently have a 20 year old Weatherby MKV 30-06 in stainless/ synthetic stock. I really like the rifle and am going to give it to my son as his first big caliber rifle.

I’m looking for a $1000-2000 ($2500 if I can’t live w/out it) NEW rifle in 300 win mag.

Wants: Synthetic stock (carbon could be cool) Cerakoted, threaded barrel (carbon would be cool) muzzle brake, reliable good shooting gun, 7 lb or less.

I’m not a professional marksman but would like a MOA capable rifle with premium store bought ammo.

Considering these rifles in no order:
-Tikka T3X Lite Roughtech (I really don’t like the way Tikka stocks feel, biggest negative to me, but I like the Roightech the most of the Tikka stocks. I also don’t think the action on the Roughtech is cerakoted.). $1100

-Weatherby MKV Hunter (7.3 lbs is the negative)
$1200

Christensen Mesa FFT (Reviews are inconsistent)
$1600

Christensen Ridgeline (Reviews inconsistent.)
$1800

Any other recommendations?????

My vote is a t3 lite and put an aftermarket stock on, best of both worlds and still well within budget, lots of options for aftermarket support for tikka

Is the Seekins better than the win 70? I love the look of the ph 2,but haven't put my paws on yet.

Different, better depends on the feature set you are looking for. Winchester has a sporting stock, and I think looks better. I also like the internal box mag. Seekins is more modern stock for prone, box magazine. I like the EW stock but I know some don’t. They both shoot sub moa but I get better groups with Seekins. I feel ew balances better with a can. They are both great guns but one is more modern rifle vs traditional. You won’t be disappointed with either.

I wish they made the waypoint in 300 Mag. That gun looks like a good value.

I ended up getting a mark V hunter in 280 ackley then bought a peak 44 stock sent it to get bedded that gun really seems to like 140 accubonds and it’s almost as light as my backcountry ti in 6.5 rpm

I just purchased a Christensen 300 Ti; was having trouble getting it to shoot… turns out user error likely to blame with my fat fingers and getting torqued to specs on scope mounts.

Initial grouping following re-mounting of scope much improved. Talking with my gunsmith buddy either you get a good one or a bad one.

He said 1/2 of the ones he has to look at; chambers are out of Sammi spec. My chamber measured fine, he bore scoped the entire barrel and saw no defects … he was looking for a reason to send it back and get me in one of his rifles .. (He got set up to build AFTER I purchased this for the record)…Planning to re-shoot this week to confirm is shooting like it’s supposed to .

All those are fine options.

I wouldn't buy another .30 magnum for any reason. Especially not just for elk. Too many guys flinch.

It's awfully nice to shoot a tame gun where you can always stay in your scope and watch bullet impact.

One from a couple of years ago.

P64 M70 fitted to a McMillan M40A1 stock. I used this as the test mule for (at the time) our new M70DBM setup. The idea is a magazine that looks like a hinged floor plate. -I whacked the bottom off an AI magazine, machined a plate to look like the lid, and soldered the mag box to it. I ended up making a follower as well so that it'd still take three cartridges.

The magazine does look a little funny. This particular gun is a family heirloom piece with a #### digit serial number. I was not about to cut the action to bits for the AI long-action magazine. Whizzing the 45* off the front and adding a Delrin block was my solution.

Notice also how the trigger guard lacks the "soviet" looking lump of material in the front for the release lever to attach to. Instead, I made the Obendorf latch with a T-slotted linkage to move the release tab to/from the louver on the back of the magazine.

ddd122.... Love those stocks! Looks great, do you know the difference in weight compared to the hunter stock? What is the total weight now? How does it shoot now? Recoil etc...

Glad you found one you like. I had the same debate about a year ago and went with the PH2. Still working on loads but really like the rifle. If the Weatherby doesn't work out, don't hesitate to look at the Havak.

I personally would go with Tikka… I have a couple of them and with factory ammo I can get 5 shots in the size of a nickel. Super amazing rifle, Norwegian companies can build some guns!
