.300 Win Mag bullet selection

Been using ttsx 140s in my .280 for deer and pigs with very good results at various ranges over the years but got a new .300wm I was wanting to try and so I loaded up 180 ttsx for a cow elk hunt, it worked perfectly, though at 30yds pretty much anything would have! I got some 180 hammer hunters recently to see how they shoot since I’ve heard good things and if I get a load together I like I’ll probably give them a try on the next hunt just to see how they do.

I shoot the Barnes 175 gr LRX in my WM. It is more accurate in my rifle than any of the 180 gr bullets I tried including Barnes, Nosler and Hornady. My nephew uses the same bullet in his 7mm mag. We both have had one shot kills on bull elk with this bullet.

Any Berger from 180 to 215 that shoots best out of Ur 300 wm would be a good choice. My Tikka 300 wm likes 185 juggernauts...

I'm using a 220 grain ELDX out of my 300 Win Mag, dropped my elk at 505 yards and my mule deer at 100 yards. Very impressed with these bullets. I got a pass thru and dropped within 20 yards at 505 yards with devastating damage. The mule deer looked like it was picked up and body slammed, bang flop.

200 grain Accubond has served me well. Going a little heavier gave me better accuracy when compared to lighter bullets with my set up.

180 grain TTSX are my bullet of choice and I’ve used them from 11 to 550 yards with excellent success. They do just fine out to 800 yards on targets out of my 300 Weatherby so ballistics are no problem for hunting. We use them out of 300 Win mag, WSM, & Wby. They break bone & keep going the no lead in the meat is another nice benefit.

I'm giving the 190 CX a try this year, just got some and load development looks promising!

I failed to mention that we haven’t found a rifle that we couldn’t get sub .75” groups with those. My cousin’s Vanguard shot so well I hit a 2” wide branch in front of our 500 yard rock with the 15th shot through the barrel. 16 YO grandson is hitting the 600 yard plate off his backpack with his WSM consistently, the experienced shooters practice to 800 and the wind really dictates hits but elevation is always good with reticle or dialing. The 180 TTSX in 308 caliber & the 150 in 284 have been extremely accurate.

300 Win Mag 180 gr SST® Superformance Hornady. I have not shot long ranges yet but they are sub MOA at 100yrds. looking forward to doing the same thing you are.
