Hi All, I'm looking for a bullet recommendation for a fast twist .300 WM. The rifle is a Browning X Bolt with a 26" barrel 1:8.5" twist. I have Peterson long brass. So far I've tried 212 gr ELD-X and 200 gr Accubonds. Each shot roughly 1.5 MOA using H1000 or IMR4350 powder. This is a hunting rifle. Intended game will be primarily elk and deer, and probably a moose hunt at some point. I do not consider myself proficient enough to be taking shots much past 500 yds at the moment, but I'm hoping to up the proficiency to get there with more practice. So, I'm looking for a bullet that could do the job on an elk from 100 yds to 1,000 yds, if such a bullet exists. I hate to go below 200 grains with the 8.5" twist because I feel like I'm wasting the rifle's capability, but maybe I'm looking at it wrong. Curious what other people are shooting with fast twist .300 WMs. Thanks in advance.

agree with above- also had great luck with Barnes 208 LRX

Personally have loads of both the Berger 215 and Barnes 208's both with H1000 in my 1:8 twist 300WM

Thanks all I was checking out both the 215 Berger and 208 LRX. Two questions: (1) Any thoughts one way or the other on going even heavier with the Bergers, to say the 230 or 245? Based on how the dimensions of the bullets look compared to the 212 ELD-X I think I would be fine on still fitting them in the mag—at least with the 230–245 may be pushing it; (2) What minimum impact velocity do you need with the 208 LRX? I’ve seen people claim anywhere from 1,600 to 2,000 fps but can’t find a solid answer.

With the LRX, I would be very surprised to if it was over 1,800 fps impact. Most of the other LRX are down around 1,500fps.

If the 8.5 twist shoots the bullet well your not wasting it no matter what weight. Choose the construction you like and try different weights and brands. I killed a cow elk this year with my 300wm 1 in 8 twist with a 165 gr ttsx. She didnt ask what I shot her with.
