Anyone have experience or knowledge about this “wildcat”? It looks like I may have to rebarrel my 30-06 and there seems to be limited but promising information to allow for longer higher bc bullets to be used with good velocities. Also seems like heavier coppers could be used without loosing powder capacity. It seems like there was a blog by a well regarded but sadly deceased shooter German Salazar, who developed it, but it is no longer available. Information on the web is limited and often conflicting.

I've done some light reading on it. As far as I know, it's just a 'modern' throat with a bit more depth added to an otherwise standard 30-06 chamber.

To my knowledge this is correct. Just a tighter and modified throat and maybe leade change. As we know that is a lot of the “modern cartridge design principles” used by Hornady and others.

This is pretty much what I have found as well. It seems to have been designed for longer higher BC bullets for long range competition with the advantage of also gaining powder capacity in order to push the bullets a bit faster. The question in the back of my brain is will this also apply to longer per grain weight copper bullets. I already have a nice long magazine on my 06 which would work well if that’s the case. I just don’t know and understand enough about chamber design to not paint myself in a corner.

It's German Salazar, he used to post on acccurateshooter.com about the 30-06 Serengeti. If you do a search you can find it.

Just thinking out loud. If doing a custom chamber, why not. Maximize capacity, and reduce case trimming.
From the little reading I’ve been able to find you get plenty of extra case capacity when seating the bullet out further. There are some hints on the Internet about people have tried it, but didn’t seem impressed.

That’s great to know. Willing to rent it out? I’m still waiting to hear from my smith about the barrel

thanks I’ll have to look over there.

Sure no problem. It’s cut 1 chamber. It’s a PTG which is hit or miss, this one seems good.

Awesome thanks I’ll pm you when it’s time. Gonna let my smith go through the current barrel and see if he can work out the bugs. He tends to take his time but does great work.

Iv got a Serengeti reamed 3006.

If you have a bullet in mind, I would make a dummy round. My throat is actually shorter than saami, with some different geometry. 3006 has a very long neck and the Serengeti was designed in a time where the bullet selection isn’t what it is today. Mine shoots 185vld for example very well along with 178 eldx.

LRI built mine. I probably wouldn’t do the specific chamber again unless I was dead set on a 3006, but I can’t really complain about it either
