Just got back from hunting GMU 77/78/81 in CO for second rifle. Me and a buddy went for Elk with OTC tags. We backpacked in to several spots over the week with no success. Everything seemed to be up higher or already pushed down to private- only heard about 6 bulls killed on public, all early week, mostly above 10k ft.
Anyone else hunt 2nd rifle public land elk with success this week? Where in CO did you go and what did you have to do to find them? I am a lifelong whitetail hunter just getting into western and elk, so looking to learn and gain knowledge for the future and hear great stories.
