I'll give them a call, I haven't heard of them before. I did call mountain view sports after the earlier comment and they have a pretty good price but will have to order it in

I got my Montana in 6.5 CM from Mt View, and I can't say enough about the transaction. First rate, start to finish. They did sell me a Montana, Talley bases and Swarovski 3-9x36, so they got what they wanted, too. I have also purchased at Big C, and they were fine, but I would much rather buy local when I can.

And you're going to LOVE the Kimber in 6.5 CM.

??? I wasn't offended. What you said was spot on. Nobody is an expert by default of their state of residence.

The 280ai can produce some of the same ballistics that the 7 mag does. I have a 260 that is a Longrange shooter with Berger 130vlds. Love it he recoil but it does not hold a candle to knock down power of the 7 mm

If you're a handloader, take a look at the 6.5x280AI. I'm considering building a lightweight custom rifle in that caliber. The 6.5x284 Norma is a great caliber also, if you wanted to stay on the upper end of the 6.5 range with factory ammo available.

Someone earlier mentioned that these rifles are carries d more than shot and that brings up an important point. If you ENJOY shooting your rifle you'll shoot it a lot more. I guide for my living in Texas and I have SO many guys with lightweight rifles in bigger caliber's that clearly don't shoot much more than to check their zero. These guys often fall apart when they have a trophy in the crosshairs. I'd rather have a hunter with a light recoil rifle, like a 6.5CM or .260 that enjoys their rifle and, therefore, goes to the range regularly and runs a couple boxes of ammo through it. Precision is everything. If you're capable of putting the bullet where it needs to go, the difference between 6.5 and .280 is meaningless. Plus, the lighter recoil makes follow up shots, if necessary, easier.

6.5CM factory ammo is exploding and there's many more options out there, with plenty of (expanding) availability. There's a lot to be said for a caliber where you can go into almost any gun store and buy ammo. Lapua just announced that they will be making brass for the 6.5CM - availability in Q1 2017. That's going to be another game changer for those that reload.

Aside from brown bear, I would have no qualms about shooting anything in Alaska with one of my 6.5s.

OP: if those 2 caliber's are the only options you have in the rifle you like, I'd get the 6.5 Creedmoor. You already have a .284 that, I'm assuming, you like. Getting another would be redundant; and, like I said earlier, recoil can become an issue when you're talking about light rifles.

there also would be nothing at all bad about having 2 (or more) rifles identical, one in a chambering easy to shoot (like a CM or 260) and the other in a chambering more viable for the species intended (elk, moose, bison, etc) where say the 7mm-08 and larger is the "better" choice) you get a rifle to practice and hunt deer, speed goats, etc... and one that doesn't kick that much more for the bigger stuff - this is my opinion and not limited to just what kills the best, politics MUST be considered these days IF one loves to hunt

Stuff is more alike than different. Folks tend to assume that EVERYTHING always goes "right" and that failure lies within a few FPE and grains of lead.

Ain't happening......

I ended up getting the 6.5 creedmoor from sportsmans warehouse in soldotna. The local stores in anchorage couldn't get one in the foreseeable future and sportsmans treated me good even throwing in a box of ammo to sweeten the pot. Can't wait to get the rings and glass and go shoot it

Do you reload? A 6.5 CM is essentially a necked down 308 or 7mm-08 depending on how you look at it. You would basically have the same round you have now but a little different ballistic coefficient. I would opt for the 280 and maybe you will get lucky and find a bullet both guns like if you reload. I'm not sure what other calibers are out in the Hunter but both the 6.5 and 280 can be hard to come by in some towns if you leave your ammo at home. I think a regular 30-06, 308 270 are all great calibers and easy to find factory ammo for.

I think there's a lot of wisdom in what Beastmode says here, 30.06 or .270 would be the better choices IMO

Creed is taking off like a rocket. 280AI is a dud factory fodder wise....

Creed Montana WILL be one of the best, if not THE best off the rack offering of all time. Ammo-wise too...

Arguably that could be said of almost any caliber tho... comparing to the larger/more powerful cartridges. Sometimes the beauty is similar performance with less power/powder etc...

OK it's a 6.5 enough said. I sometimes wonder if they changed the name of 7/08 to 7 creedmore how awesome it would be

Less awesome than an actual Creedmoor that would be better optimized to load in a short action and minimize case stretch with its steeper shoulders.

The Creedmoor is more popular than the 260 because of these reasons and the cheaper factory ammo.
