I out to 400, it doesn’t matter. Out to 600, whatever you shoot best with heavy, high-BC bullets.

For me, it would be 6.5 Creedmoor or 7-08.
What bullet would you use in the 7-08? I’ve never used anything heavier than 150’s. The 162’s were too long for the magazine in my rifle.

7mm PRC, 6.5 PRC or 300 WSM, 300 Win Mag. Those would be my choices in order. The 600 yard shot is the kicker.

600 is the kicker I just picked up a stainless tikka in 30-06 as my do all inside 500 yard gun it would be fine at 600 but I also have a 300 win mag that shoot betters very well if I think I need to shoot farther that the 06 will handle.

For a factory ammo shooter, wanting to kill animals at 600 yards, 6.5 creed is the easiest option by far. Cut the barrel to 18", and it still had enough velocity to kill at 600 with factory ammo.

The chamber and ammo specs virtually eliminate the chance of getting one that's a lousy shooter. Recoil is mild, and it has great factory ammo availability.

Factory options in 140 ELD-M, 143 ELD-X, 147 ELD-M, and 156 EOL.

All of these will be fine to 600 yards on elk, black bear, deer and antelope.

If Tikka offered 6CM, that would be even better!

A 145 ELDX in 270 will VASTLY out perform any of the ammo listed above out to 600 yards. Seriously, it's not even close

Don't fall for the 6.5 hype.

Actually by 600 yards the 6.5 creed with 147 has less drift and more energy.

If I was to choose between the Hornady ammo 6.5 CM 147 gr ELDM vs the 270 Win 145 ELDX it would be a wash. The 6.5 CM would be favored due to less wind drift at 600 yards.

On a semi-related issue, at what barrel length does the 6.5 Creedmoor cease to gain much speed from additional length?
Bought 24 inch barreled Savage 110 for lady friend thinking that would be optimal length to hold some speed.
Already had plenty of 20 inch barreled youth 243, 308 and 7mm-08 for tight stands.
