.243 95 grain LRX

Got a freshly rebarrled .243 arriving this week, it's a 1:8 twist and I've got some of the new Barnes 95 LRX to load up. Likely going to start with IMR 4350...anybody else loading this bullet in a .243?

In terms of bullets designed to be stabilized in a 1:10 twist, my daughter killed a ~170 boar at ~90 yards today with a 70 gr. Hammer Hunter, which I thought performed well. Broke the onside leg bone and shank + 1 petal ended up through the shield and just under the skin on the off side. This was downloaded to ~2,800 fps as well. Guys on the Hammer forum are pushing these to 3,700 fps in a .243.

It’s windy as in Wyoming. Not sure I want to launch ping pong balls on meat saver shots. Can be hard enough to crease shoulders on moving animals and controlling the wobble.

The Hammer folks have done a fair bit of work on what twist is required to stabilize their bullets. I am not sure how transportable that is from copper bullet to copper bullet, but if you are limited to a 1:10 twist, you may also be limited to ping pong balls.

It's a long bullet for which Barnes suggests a 1:8 twist, for a 1:10 I've been very happy with the barnes 80 TTSX

Anyone have any real world experience loading 95 Grain LRX in 243?

I have some H4350 as well as some other powders and some new brass.

Wondering what kinds of loads people have used with success so far in a 1/8 Tikka 243 with this bullet.

I know the 80g TTSX is popular, but wondering if anyone is shooting the 95g LRX with success yet.

I shoot the 95LRX in a 6CM and love it. I load mine with RL16, cousin to the 4350s, and I found that playing with seating depth has been a waste of time. I load Barnes for 5 calibers and seat all of them to the top groove as in their factory ammo.

I have 2 rifles with 95 LRX loadings. One is a 240W with a K&P 1:9 and a 6CM with a 1:7.5 twist. Both load easily/forgiving + shoot very accurate with the 95 LRX. 240W uses H4831 and the 6CM w/H4350 (around 43 grains, Lapua brass, Fed 210 primer). All my LRX loadings can 1) be pushed harder than other bullets, and 2) seating @ .050"off works for everything.

Absolutely correct. Saves a lot of shagging around. No accuracy ever lost. As an aside the 53gr TSX in the 223 is absolute dynamite.

i'm using superformance with 87gr absolute hammers. not disappointed.
