22arc vs 223 seated long?

22 arc for me. Whatever you can do hand loading with .223 you can stay ahead with the arc. If ammo is loaded for gas gun, you won’t get everything out of either.

I have a 22 BR and it’s fun too. I like them all from 223 to 22 creed.

Bullet shape makes seating those 75gr eld's deep enough for an AR mag is really pushing it IMO. Would not surprise me if thats why the 73gr stuff was introduced.

Now a tikka carved out to take an AICS mag? You can get away with a lot then.

Oh yeah I am well aware of that I was hoping to get some velocity numbers for comparison.

There are several makers/tinkerers of modified Tikka mags that would allow for a 75gr eldm seated out to over 2.5" which could negate a lot of the appeal of the 22 arc.

I’m loading 80eldms at mag length (2.45” or so) in a 20” factory barrel. Getting 2850fps.

Guessing 75eldms a tad faster. 2900fps or so. Pretty fast for a 223. Haven’t seen Pressure yet.

So I do have a pile of 75 ELDMs that are partially causing my question.

Anyone have a comparison of velocity the 75 ELDM seated out to the lands on 223 vs seated max AR mag length? My thought process was to snag a Tikka and use a modified magazine so I could feed longer ammo

I cannot help you with 75 ELDMs in an AR but they will take up a lot of powder space. My backup load for my bolt 223 (7 twist) is a good dose of Leverevolution, Lapua brass, Rem SR BR primer and I get 3037fps. Lvr is almost a magic powder in the 223 with heavy bullets. My next reloading project is using the 75 ELDMs in my ARC.

Same bullet weight, same barrel length the ARC will always carry more velocity.

My 20” Tikka 223 runs 77TMKs at 2900 seated long. My 20” Howa Mini 22ARC runs the 88TMK at 2925 at mag length.

My 18” AR with a Shaw barrel in 22ARC runs the 77TMK at 3000fps at mag length.

Think of .22 ARC as a scaled-down 6.5mm Creedmoor, but 7% less overbore (and likely a bit more barrel life).

My factory tikka 223 22" i can handload 75 eldms to 2950. My 16.5" 22 arc barrel shot the factory 75 eldm @2854 average for first 50 rds through barrel. Im pretty impressed for a 6" shorter barrel. Im assuming by the end of this case of ammo i will be around 2950 and could handload to probably 3050-3100

Based on the information given, I do believe that a heavy 223 Tikka is on the books once I pay for this hunt. While there is an advantage to the 22ARC for speed, I think a longer Tikka with mid magazines will suit me well

What ya taking goat hunting? Personally id take my 25-06 or 6.5 prc probably. Nothing else is set up for goat hunting / hiking all over the mountain

I have a 6mmPRC that I put together from the group buy. Either 108eldm, 116 tmk, or one of the hammer bullets. I haven't put together loads yet. I'll probably switch the stock to a stockys stock
