Pictures are better than numbers! I am an AI fan because it takes care of the case stretch issue. The extra speed is a bonus and by the time I have fire formed my brass then all my load work up is pretty much done.

22-250 AI is fun for sure. The fireforming thing is a non-issue. Load 100 pieces of Lapua and then go shoot prairie dogs, rock chucks, or go hunt deer. My fire forming loads are plenty accurate for that.

Having used and burnt out 223ai's, 22-250ai's, 243ai's, and 1 25-06ai barrel, I've never understood the aversion guys have toward fireforming brass? FF'is just shooting, who doesn't like to shoot?

I have some RP 223ai brass that is close to 30 firings and still going and never been trimmed.

I started with 200 pieces of lapua 243 brass in my first 243ai. I have about 140 of those left and they toasted my 3rd 243ai barrelthis past summer. Some I lost and some I tossed.

Those are the dudes that sit on the internet going back and forth about fireforming.

I grew up in a 22-250 family, it was the first center fire I ever shot, and was all I shot until I started deer hunting.

In college I bought a 22-250 and it was probably the best shooting gun I’ve ever owned. I took it yote hunting and had no problems out to 350 yds (about as far as you can see here) and had it on steel to 500 yds (about as far as I could see there). When it came time to look at needing a new barrel, I’d been reading the 223 thread here.

I needed up selling that gun and buying a Tikka 223 (sadly not going to be a 22-250 guy anymore). Let me tell you, I’m not sure it’s possible to have more fun that you can with that little gun. It shoots well, is cheap, and does pretty well anything a 22-250 can do, maybe even more since you can typically shoot heavier bullets.

Not saying I’ll never own a 22-250 again, but the 223 is just so much fun for varmints and plinking. I’ll be taking mine deer hunting as well next year. You wouldn’t regret it!

Our club range goes to 500. My three main range rifles are a Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223, 7twist, a Savage Model 110 action in an MDT Field Stock with a Shilen select match bull barrel, also .223 and 7 twist, and a Tikka Super Varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor. As much as I love my Tikka and as good a rifle as it is, I actually enjoy shooting the .223s more. Great fun and a challenge , using factory ammo, shooting at 3 and 4” gongs at 500. Gets sporty in a breeze!

I volunteered to RSO for a community outreach project at our range which was a free CCW course for county residents. It was a sit in class all day eating donuts kind of thing and then they shot 25 rounds.

When class let out I grabbed my Terratorn, 223 trainer, bino harness and went over to the long line, threw all my shite on the ground, dropped down on the concrete without a pad, hit 300-400-500-600-800-840 steel swinging targets, cleared the gun and packed up and walked off.

Didn't say a word. They didn't either.

It's easy to mess with that crew.
