Anyone play with the 55 grain Norma Oryx? It's in stock as as both a component and factory ammo for 223 and 22-250 locally. Is it comparable to the fusion/golddot? The .22-250 factory option in particular since the fusion has been discontinued if comparable would be great for the many old slow twist guns out there and folks who aren't inclined to reload.
Larger calibers seem similar if a little more inclined to exit than the fusions so that is promising.

  • 106.1 spread
  • 24.6 SD
  • 2711 min, 2818 max

Also, the accuracy of the two was very close, with a slight edge to the Black Hills.

I searched but didn’t find much. Does anyone have info on how the 75 ELDM does at lower impact velocities? Maybe 1800-2200?

My kill from 3 seasons ago, using the 75 ELDM at 475 yards, started at 2931, .223 Rem, was a bit over 2000 fps. Double lung and exit, dropped at the shot. Small Mulie buck.

more kills with the 77gr tmk. No drama, behind the shoulder and dead in 40 yards.

My 8 year old really likes stretching it out and shooting steel. Recently went 3 for 3 on a 10” gong at 475 yards. The bullet is only going a touch over 1700 fps there so I think that’s about the outermost limit for killing with it. She makes it look easy

The phantom nas3 77tmk was not worth the money in my rifle... pretty much the same velocity as the Stand1 77tmk (not nas3) ammo I have. But with the downside that the "brass" is too sticky in a straight-pull AR, and won't extract without a ton of force.

The increase is not limited to 5.56, but those numbers would be the most relevant to this thread. Two more for the 75gr ELD-M and LVR. Both shots tucked into the crease of the shoulder at around 180-ish yards. The blonde one shifted his weight rearward for a couple of seconds before barrel rolling down the cut to his death. Bigger one did a 60-yard sprint with the last half being big hops with air strides until his final somersault.

80 ELD-M @ ~2,375 impact velocity. Lower 1/3 behind shoulder, slight quartering away impact. .223ish hole going in, about penny, maybe nickle size exit. 30 yard run but decent blood trail starting where he fell.

Hornady Frontier 75 BTHP (I believe the same as their TAP bullet). About 2,440fps impact. Essentially same impact as above.

Couldn't even find the entrance, but exit was large and blood trail was good. Maybe 40 yard run.


80 ELD-M again. Same angle as above, higher impact. 2,300ish impact. No exit, bullet lodged in offside shoulder blade process after passing through bottom of spine.


Interesting to me, the larger sow on the left was hit with a Hornady 55 SP @ about 200 yards running, probably about 2,250ish impact velocity. That bullet performed about as well as the 80 ELD-M.

Good question. It was getting dark, so unfortunately I didn't spend much time checking details, but... It didn't do 77TMKish type damage and did seem to open a ways in. Still made a decent wound track and almost seemed like it was just getting going, destruction wise, as it exited.

All three bullets (80 ELD-M, 75 BTHP and the 55 SP) were much less destructive than some of what I've seen from the TMK. Much more of a "typical" (read narrow) wound path with much less peripheral trauma and bloodshot meat. Very little bloodshot and meat loss even through the hog's shoulder.

I know you were asking about the 75 BTHP, but below is the heart and lungs, entrance and exit from the 80 ELDM on the first deer. I've put 10 or so various 223 ELDMs in moose, deer and hogs now and the tendency seems to definitely be adequate, but narrower wound tracts with minimal bloodshot meat compared to the TMK.
