.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Three years in a row, 75 gr ELDM filled my tag. This year was 277 yards, first shot was rushed and I destroyed the liver (but didn’t puncture the gut). He didn’t like that but he didn’t drop right away so I put the next one in this neck.

He went about 6 feet. Very clean carcass, almost no bloodshot. Both bullets exited.
seeing that buck hanging in the wood shed brought back a lot of great memories ... thanks

Solid work
I just dialed “Carlos” in today I’ll be slinging 75’s this year for blacktail.

Getting me psyched up I’m really looking forward to my white tail hunt in SC at the end of the month. I plan to use my 223 for most of the hunt. Have to vet my 95 grain TMKs as well before I head to CO for late season rifle muley and doe antelope.

I keep reading conflicting reports on using a 1/8 for the TMK, saying it doesn't "quite" stabilize it as well as a 1/7 and can have some problems past 400 yards.

Looking at a Criterion 20", wish they made a 1/7 just to soothe my nerves.
IMG_7789.jpegMy new 1:8” tikka shoots AAC like this. I don’t think it’s a stabilization issue because some handloaded UM 77 tore a ragged hole there on the left. These are all 20 shot groups. Probably 90 plus degrees and high humidity in central/coastal Texas

That's about what I was getting this summer with the 1000 I bought. I didn't buy any more.

I have a pri MK12 that shoots groups about half that size, but I don’t know if I’ve ever shot more than 10 shot groups with it. But generally speaking that gun shoots almost all AAC (OTM Sabre, and TMK’s) about a 1.5” ragged holes. Just different strokes for different guns I guess

That's pretty close to what my 1:8 does with a bunch of AAC loads I tried. 2"-3" groups if not a little over. ELDm does about an inch though.

Why the two different calibers out of curiosity?
Was hunting with my brother who had the 300 (as I always used to as well). Neither of us cared who got it as long as it went down hence the multiple shots. He didn't react to either shot really, he just took a few steps and dropped dead a few seconds after the shots. The 300 was not suppressed.
