Care to share load specifics? Twist? Reamer freebore? If you don’t know the FB dimension do you have an OAL touching lands or OAL and jump to lands? Brass? Small or large primer?
Unknown Munitions loaded ammo, 7” twist barrel, Petersen SRP brass, ? grains H4350

Is that a credo 2-10? If so how do you like it??
Yes, Credo 2-10x36.

First time hunting with it. I checked the reticle out without illumination after sunset on a very young doe in heavily wooded area with 8/8 cloud cover. Could’ve shot without illumination on >4x power easily within civil twilight. 2-4x was difficult to discern reticle after 20 minutes after sunset.

It’s a keeper…

Finally… caught up on all the reading on this thread. Learned a lot. Thanks to all who posted with actual knowledge and experience.

I’ve had experience before shooting coyotes with a 223, not favorable with a 16” barrel and 55 vmax but once I put a 20” barrel on had good results. These results led me to not even consider the 223 for big game let alone another bullet option for it. Fast forward to the end of 132 pages of this thread excited to try out some other bullet options. Mainly the 69 TMK or 73 ELD M as I currently have a 1-9 barrel.

Seems like if you stay within the velocity threshold of the bullet and use a bullet with good terminal ballistics they perform.

I watched several YouTube videos with ballistic gel and the would cavity with the TMK or ELD M bullets we’re very similar in size coming out of a 223 or a 308. Very eye opening.

Also I thought the amount of energy the bullet produced at a given range would aid in penetration but this has also been proven wrong.

The attached video I think is very good and he also has a lot of other videos that were very good with ballistics gel.

Thanks for posting that, I’ve now watched almost all his videos on top of reading this entire thread. In one video he pits the 300 Win Mag using a 180gr Core Lokt against the 243 with a 108gr ELDM, that was the one that got my attention the most.

Good stuff, really helps fill in the gaps.

What happens with the core lokt in comparison?
Didn’t open as much, less hydraulic shock, smaller temp cavity & permanent cavity. Wasn’t a super-drastic difference but the smaller cartridge outperformed it. Which I guess is the drastic difference lol. The fact that the 243 would’ve resulted in more damage and a faster kill than the 300 magnum in that instance.

Like the OP said at the beginning, bullets matter more than headstamps.

Here’s the video. Apologies, I was going from memory. He had done the 243 in an earlier video and referred back to it along with several others.

Some velocity data points for a 16” suppressed barrel with stand one armory ammo 77tmk loaded to mag length and unknown munitions 75eldm loaded to bolt length. These are both based on ten shot strings. Stand one is definitely loaded hotter based on this small sample size.

Thanks for posting this. I was going to ask what guys are getting for speed with the 77 tmk.

I know I could go back and look through all 130+ pages but does anyone else want to share what they are getting speed wise and what type of gun and barrel length?

That is not bad at all, what are the rifle details? I currently have a 20” tikka and wouldn’t mind chopping it a couple or few more inches. Currently get about 2800 suppressed with the tmk’s

It’s a stainless tikka that I had cut down to 16” and the suppressor is a Gen 2 Ultra 9. I did have Shaen rifles throat it a little longer in order to seat out the 77s as far as possible. Once I burn through the 75s I’ll reload them up with the 77s and some TAC to see how much more velocity I can get9A015444-CF19-470B-B524-CB75EBA51C66.jpeg

Good deal, I was debating cutting mine down to 18 but if I do decide to cut it may go shorter yet. I just like the short hand(ier) feel especially with the suppressor.

Fantastic performance and thanks for sharing!

Wouldn’t steer you wrong on this!

So much GREAT information and first hand experience graciously shared by others that facilitated the start of this thread thread.

The thread has continued thanks to others with an open mind willing to give the combination a chance.

It’s contrary to what I thought I knew and what you read across the forums on a daily basis, however…the results speak for themselves. The performance is remarkable and often needs to be experienced first hand to be believed.

I do not believe there is a better combination for big game inside of 450 yds. Period.
I’m nowhere near the marksman to hunt anyone close to 450yds +, but what would be the cartridge/bullet combo of choice for you and form?

Past 450’ish yards- given someone that is truly trained and practiced- a 6cm or 6.5cm is the easiest way. Between them, I’d get a 6cm in a Tikka, if a factory rifle then a Tikka in 6.5cm.

Understood. thank you. At what distance or game would you consider stepping up to a .30, or mid/large bore?
