.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Finally my turn to add to the thread! My 10 year old son finally got his first buck with a 16” Tikka .223 with a Rokstock and 77 TMK. He had killed a doe a couple years ago with a .22 hornet and has been obsessed with getting a buck ever since. Shot was ~40 yards broadside. Impact straight up the leg lower third completely breaking onside leg and bullet lodged in offside shoulder. Buck ran ~10 yards further into the field with his head plowing the ground until hitting a downed limb and jumping 180* in the air before running ~10 yards back to the spot he was shot and collapsing with only a couple leg kicks after falling to the ground. Total time from shot to death was ~15-20 seconds. Best part was after seeing the deer enter the field and alerting my son I was unable to see the deer anymore after it walked behind a small tree. For ~2 minutes he watched the deer through the scope while I was unable to see anything and waited for a broadside opportunity and just as I had leaned over to ask him “can you see it buddy” he fired and made a perfect shot and completed his goal of killing a buck! So proud of my son and look forward to many more memories like this one! Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread and after seeing the results of his first two kills with “small” rifles I have nothing but confidence he can kill with this rifle the rest of his life.
