IMO serviceability and weight are more important than total DB reduction. The modern rimfire cans are all pretty quiet. I would also hesitate to get an all AL can even though they weigh less. Options like the OCL or Q el-Camino get you titanium (OCL) or stainless (Q) baffles, fully shielded, in a package that weighs just over 4 oz.

No offense to Huntsman, but “why?” You would trust a subjective experience over objective data? Do you even RokSlide, bro?

And not all rimfire cans are the “same when you are talking about subs.” Some are measurably better in several ways than others.

I like data, but there seems to be a lack of data for the FRP thing that I am looking for. Frankly, I really don't know what that experience will be in real life, and it may be indistinguishable. I won't know until I try, and @huntsman22 offer is a golden ticket to happy feelings. The first four suppressors he listed are all ones that I have an interest in. I help on hunts and pack meat for others 30X more than I actually hunt big game myself. If this suppressor was planned to be used only at the range in NRL-22 or for the kid to blastnwhack, the FRP thing would mean absolutely nothing. Going back to my helping on hunts and packing meat, shooting in those instances would be a single shot, cold bore, where (allegedly) FRP is a thing. Again, hypothetical because I haven't shot any yet to experience what that actually sounds like. I also have an older wirey dog who is gun shy but would have a blast retrieving squirrels that magically fall from the sky. I am certain she would bail if shot number 1 was "loud".

For me, when I read "they are all the same", it makes me believe that either FRP isn't a thing or those folks don't care about it like I think I might.

FRP is overblown. 90% of the guys that shoot, can't really tell. Sure, it's a leetle tad louder than the next shots, but not at all like it is unsuppressed. My Sparrow has it, but if that was the only can for the rest of my life, I'd run the piss outta it. And it WAS my only rimfire can for about 4 years and I loved it. Now it stays on the 15-22 for the kids to enjoy......

The cheapest, most garbage aluminum .22 can I can dream of is literally silent with subsonics

I do not believe for a second that there is a practical difference in standard size rimfire suppressors with subsonic ammo

Here is sorted by MIL dBA. I don't think it really made that much difference, except for making me feel not quite as stupid about the Banish 22.

Edit - overall value for money still seems to be the AAC Element 3. And I would not be unhappy with the Road Hunter or Phantom 22.

Second edit - I did not bother to add more suppressors that fell between 112.2 and 120 MIL dBA to this spreadsheet, but that is what I would do if I was actively shopping. I think this spreadsheet demonstrates that the people above who were against spending big money on a rimfire suppressor are on point.

Third edit - the Boss El Jefe looks like a potentially interesting one when sorted by MIL dBA.

Banish 22 is a fairly solid silencer. Banish 30….not so much but for a rimfire can the b22 is light, quiet and easy to clean. My next one will probably be a DD road hunter though.

Got my third OCL a week ago (19 hour approval). See what the waits change to, when everybody dumps their apps on the ATF all at once in January(just to save a tax stamp fee). Also have 2 Masks. But only one of each of the others.... Kinda tells what I like.

I’m willing to see how flooded the ATF gets, I’m personally not terribly worried about it. I’m waiting until the 200 dollar tax goes away just out of principal. Then I’ll buy a road hunter. I do like that otter creek though.

Maybe it’s just me but I think all these things Arno ya of inventory running out and wait times going back to months and months are scare tactics. Of course businesses want your money now rather than later. Perhaps I’m wrong, time will tell.

Of those on the list, I have used the two ea nyx cans. Mostly the mod 2 on a 17 hmr. Not Hollywood quiet, but good. Very light little cans. Quite tiny compared to a centerfire can. Since a 22 rifle is barely over 140db unsupressed, none of cans are not all that great in the db reduction. Probably due to the small volume, 1” by 5 ish in. I expect a larger diameter would be even quieter.

On the ae nyx cans I am surprised the mod 2 tests louder than the original as the mod 2 has one more baffle. The one test I found on the 17 hmr suggested the extra baffle did make it quieter.

Once you narrow it down to two or three options, then it is quite simple to look at the first two graphs for those options and see if the first shot report looks a bit higher than the others. Here is the ECCO Ocelot Micro:



The First Round Pop is quite evident to me from the graph.

Compare with the graph for the Banish 22:

No FRP evident on that one (and none in my experience from shooting a few hundred rounds through it).

I picked up my new CZ 457 with 20" barrel this week. Yesterday I put my DA Mask on it, loaded up a couple rounds of CCI subsonic 1050fps rounds, and shot it from inside my house with the barrel out the sliding door. All I heard and felt was a light "click". I thought I had a hang fire. I slowly opened the bolt, and an empty case popped out. I pulled the bolt and checked the barrel just in case, then shot another round........same thing. This setup will work just fine.
