22 suppressors

A little follow up on that Checkmate. It's AWESOME! Up to two gophers in the alley with subs
I got to watch my two younger daughters on Monday. I really wanted to go shooting. I sat up a cardboard box full of plastic bags in front of my Matrix archery target. That sits in front of plywood with horse stall mats screwed to it.
I locked the 22 into the tripod at 20 yards and had the five year old and three year old shooting lol. Mom called and asked how things were going She wasn't impressed lol. But shooting subs suppressed js basically the sound of a stick breaking. And I've got high fences around the yard.

Bring this back up...

Looking for a no FRP unit and it seems there's a lot of folks here with various models. Models of interest based on this thread and a reddit rabbit hole are the Otter Creek Ti, Occulus, Mask, Huxwrx Flow (keep the kid healthier with his 10/22?), TBAC, but I am ignorant as to anything other than what I've read.

Hosts:
10/22 17"
T1x 20"
Smith and Wesson M&P 4-5"

I'll buy a sonic cleaner most likely, and don't have an issue buying subsonic ammunition. The frp thing "seems" important to me because I foresee yeeting rabbits, grouse, squirrels when out helping on other people big game hunts. There's also a lot of shooting opportunities at the ranch my office is on, which the non-wild side backs up to a large shopping center and some condos. It seems like all suppressors do fine on rimfire once they are gas purged.

Frankly I dont really enjoy shooting supersonics out of my 16" t1x with the Otter Creek Ti. The crack is louder than what is fun for me.

Maybe a 20" barrel would sound different?
Maybe other cans somehow would reduce the crack, I assume it's just the supersonic crack in which case--doubtful?

Subs are just so much better

I have 2x sico sparrows, the latest gen, they are inexpensive and a ton of fun, I get that they aren’t the top in terms of suppression but shooting .22 subs they are fantastic. I’ve put 22 wmr and .17 through them they were acceptable but not super quite

Idk why guys would want anything else, seems silly to be putting on $600-1000 cans on a .22

In my opinion, the only way to do this is to make a little spreadsheet with the relevant factors on it and then start filling in information.

SE dBA
Weight
Length
Diameter
Durability concerns?
Price

Then you figure out how you weight those factors.

Use a combination of PEW Science, TBAC Summit, and manufacturer’s published information to fill out the spreadsheet.

For rimfire suppressors, the TBAC Summit actually covers enough examples that I think you could make an informed decision just using their data. If I was buying a new rimfire suppressor, I would sort their list by SE dBA and then go down to the Banish 22 (the suppressor I currently own). I would exclude everything below it (122.08 dBA). Then I would plug in all the relevant factors for the ones above it on my list. And then start excluding the ones that were significantly longer or heavier.

Edit - to hell with PEW Science for this comparison. The Summit has all you need to know, for free. Then just read reviews and look for mentions of FRP if that is important to you.

Yeah I’m with you I might get a griffin micro Optimus in the future as more of 5.7 or .223 suppersor that will be wonderful on the rim fires but for a .22 the sico is great? Not bad with .17 either

@sndmn11

I only did it for bolt action .22's, but I think this gives a pretty good idea. Maybe for the rimfires, the Durability column could be used to mark which ones are capable of handling 5.7x28...

Edit - if I had done this a year ago, I wouldn't own a pair of Banish 22's. I would be reading every review I could find to decide between one of the three green ones. The SE dBA ratings are far enough apart that a person might be able to distinguish between them. Just might. The diameters are practically identical.

That summit says that shooter's ear dba measurements were all skewed from the cycling of the gun used. I would use a different decibal metric

Your banish 22 ranks plenty good when you throw out Shooter's Ear

Okay, I missed that. Thanks. I will sort by another metric.

Here is sorted by MIL dBA. I don't think it really made that much difference, except for making me feel not quite as stupid about the Banish 22.

Edit - overall value for money still seems to be the AAC Element 3. And I would not be unhappy with the Road Hunter or Phantom 22.

Second edit - I did not bother to add more suppressors that fell between 112.2 and 120 MIL dBA to this spreadsheet, but that is what I would do if I was actively shopping. I think this spreadsheet demonstrates that the people above who were against spending big money on a rimfire suppressor are on point.

Third edit - the Boss El Jefe looks like a potentially interesting one when sorted by MIL dBA.

Correcting the spreadsheet above made me think that sorting rimfires by SE dBA might NOT make as much sense as it did for centerfires (even if the data for SE dBA was good). For a rimfire can, particularly for a hunting can, being really quiet to the shooter might not matter as much as how it sounds to nearby animals. I've thought of taking a kid with a suppressed CZ 457 with me while I am hunting larger game and letting the kid shoot squirrels.

Is there anything in whatever data you are looking at that indicates first round pop?

Sort of... you can check the graphs on the TBAC data. It is broken down by shot. If the first shot measures higher than subsequent shots, you can see that on the graphs.

Apart from that, I would read the reviews.

IDK why those aren’t more popular. I took mine apart for the first cleaning after mebbe 1k rounds of all sorts of ammo.
It came apart easy, all the fouling was contained in the stack. I have fresh o rings, but didn’t see any reason to change them. All the fouling wiped out easy with CLP. Went together easy. I’m not even sure it needed cleaning but Griffin says 1k is a good point to prevent buildup.
It’s my only can for now.

Got my third OCL a week ago (19 hour approval). See what the waits change to, when everybody dumps their apps on the ATF all at once in January(just to save a tax stamp fee). Also have 2 Masks. But only one of each of the others.... Kinda tells what I like.

Let us know how it compares.
I purchased thinking performance would be the same across the board for 22 cans, but so far underwhelmed with mine.

Edit to add: I learned that I just had unrealistic expectations with how loud supersonic ammo is, regardless of suppressor

Underwhlemed with the Otter Creek?
Yes. Otter creek ti.
I feel like it should be better, BUT I have no other 22lr can to compare it to shooting supers out of my t1x

Edit to add: supers are just loud with all rimfires I guess

Shooting subs it is hollywood quiet as expected.
