22 Creedmoor Magnum (+ Peak )

I can't imagine cup and core bullets holding together at 22 Creed +Peak velocities. Hornady bullets already fall apart like a Chinese motorcycle out of 6 Creeds in standard brass. However, I'd be happy if I were wrong

Shouldn't have any issue in 16-18" barrels. Like right now I'm at 2938 in my 16". I think the 24" test barrels state like 3100 and change. So it's only asking another 200 fps over that maybe a little more. As long as you're not using a super fast twist.

So what kind of powder that's currently available could even reach close to 80,000 psi with the given case capacity? I've got to use a drop tube just to fit the book max of n565. Then it's compressed. Did they come up with a special powder blend or a new powder? Or just using maybe a Staball style powder or ball powder filled to the case mouth?

Its probably a faster powder that takes less of to hit the peak pressure.

On one of the pxt barrel threads on another site a guy was having better results with a relatively fast powder for his 28 nosler.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Instead of slow burning magnum powders dropping down to something for burn rate of a smaller sized case then adding more powder.

Does Quick Loads calculate this?

Been a while since I spun QL up, but should be able to adjust the max pressure variable, at the least I know you can select a gr weight and if its over pressure itll still give data just says warning do not use.

Edit: added photo

Too bad they just don't have an expensive sell phone app. Might just have to buy that for my laptop.

Man, that isnt even the half of it. It can plot which powders are likely to work well, and you can adjust case dimensions based on measurements etc. I think there is an add on to design custom cases as well.

It was well worth it when I was playing around with contenders and wildcat cartridges let alone the "normal stuff" but loaded long.

That photo was one from 2-3 years ago where a friend had asked for some data on 6cm with some powders he had on hand.

Good luck but I don't see them doing peak ammo for civ use besides 6.5 cm and 556

I don’t know man…….they sound pretty vested in growing the market.

Looking at the PXT barrels for consideration in a creedmoor +peak application currently only seeing them offered in .224. &. .264. 🤔

I Might consider spinning on a 6.5 PXT Barrel & shoot box 6.5CM +Peak ammo in the short term to get cases to work on for the 22 project.
Have some fun while I’m at it. 🤔

These cases will basically be the hot rod wild cat you have at home.
Might pickup a 6 Creed since it'll basically be a 6 UM.
Call me old fashioned but I'm just going to stick to the peak 6.5 and enjoy it. Already talked to my gunsmith about it and with a little luck it should have a similar POI short range and better ballistics long range. I'll wait a few years and let other people figure out what cases and bores are optimal.
