For context I would really love to hunt ibex and chamois in the European mountains (most likely Spain). However when talking to outfitters there is always a 21% VAT tax added to quote.

I mentioned paying cash but apparently that means nothing since Spanish Ibex tags come from the government and there is no savings opportunity with cash.

It almost feels like the European governments want to tax hunting at a crazy rate in order to kill it off.

Has anyone else had similar experience?

My knowledge of European tax law is limited :D but as far as I know they don't use an income tax system like we have. They use a "consumption tax" on things you buy to make the bulk of their money instead of an income tax.

Talk to other outfitters. There are ways to bake away some of the taxes. The 21% will always be present but the amount on which it gets charged may be able to be manipulated

The 21% VAT tax does not apply to business to business transactions, so if you book through an agency this tax will not apply. If you are charged this VAT, they are doing so to profit from it.

Income tax in European countries for most people is more than the VAT. Europeans would love to pay NY and CA tax rates

you can recover some of it when leaving EU space as well .. almost a need for a finance advisor or business lawyer for those amounts lol ...

but the tariff wars might have killed it ... for us hunters.

If you pay by Transfer to our spanish ir european bank accounts, yes the 21% VAT is mandatory and no way to avoid It. Usually the clients that want to save some money they pay the Booking Signals by Transfer and the rest of the amount in cash when they finish the hunt

Howdy,

You are correct that the 21% VAT really bumps the price of what can be a reasonably priced hunt in Spain. There is a way around that where you can pay only the advertised price.

As for the ibex the most economical way to hunt them is by choosing a "representative" ibex hunt which means you can shoot any Ibex you see and that could be all the way up to Silver Medal. The hunt will be conducted in an area that just does not hold big Medal billys.

Message me if you'd like more details.
