2025 NRL Hunter

At the venue @WoolyBugger is mentioning there seems always be a couple stages with 1 target/4 positions where getting the right height to hit the window is a primary challenge to me at least. I figured i'd like off a bag more but find being clipped in to be helpful moving from stage to stage and not having to keep my bag from falling off the tripod with all the movement. Pretty common to just pick up the gun clipped in and carry it 10' to the next shooting position. Just sucks if you're clipped in and need to make significant adjustments to tripod legs.

Should be able to compare a Leofoto 282 CMX (shorter version) with MA30 to my RRS 24L here soon for stability. The RRS definitely feels stiffer.
Iv gotten to play with a lot of tripods now and am now positive the 24L isn’t worth it. It weighs what a 34 basically does and reallly isn’t much smaller but it’s very obvious when next to each other that the 30 series legs and up are much more stable

Exactly. There was a 1 target 4 position stage this time that first position was an awkward height standing, then 2 kneeling, then another standing. I shot it from position 1 to position 4 then the middle two kneeling. Very convenient to pickup the gun and tripod at the same time when it was probably a 30’ move across the stage.

I got the short 360 series leofoto and thought I’d love it but it was just short enough it was a pain to glass and shoot from when on flat ground and I’m only 5’8. Currently still using an older 320 series leofoto and it’s been great. Plan on getting the updated 360 at some point to try out

I too struggle to shoot clipped into a tripod. Maybe just cuz I don’t practice it enough, but my go to tripod techniques are as follows.
1. Don’t shoot off a tripod
2. Still don’t shoot off a tripod
3. If I absolutely have to, I do it like this. No head, no tac table just bag plopped right on top of the legs. I’ve thought about adding a tac table but the way I carry my tripod to stages I think it may interfere with my ability to deploy it quickly or without smacking myself in the face.

It looks like your 324 has a smaller apex which may make it a little tougher and it looks short so if you’re not shooting seated it may not be as stable. Inverted tripods are the way to go for nrlhunter imo if you can swing it.
I tried this over the weekend and was blown away by how stable it was. Huge fan of the bag directly on the tripod with no head.

So I’ve shot 3 NRL events now, lot of tripod shooting. I’m really struggling with it getting my wobble zone to where I can consistently hit targets at range. I have a leofoto SA 324 with the mx40 head.. are the higher end tripods just really that much better? The top shooters in my squads just don’t seem to have trouble with it. I’m shooting clipped in to my arca rail, is a tac table much better?

When I clip in I have to be careful I’m not torquing the head/tripod if my anvil is too tight adjusting the gun to aim. Also don’t discount using a bag to support your arm/knee.

I just got the SO-282CMX (short version) with a MA-30. Thought was it is good for hunting and the Decorah NRL matches which haven't required full shoulder height tripods in the 4 matches I've shot there as every shot is downhill. Definitely wouldn't want this height for glassing/shooting while standing much.

Was going to get a T3 Dauntless or Trilogy for full on gamer tripod but have been waffling between it and a fatboy levitate. Seems like the fatboy would be more stable and give the option for a leveling base in the apex. Only upside i see to the T3 is locking out the legs and I hardly ever use tripod rear anyway (realize that would probably change if I get more into competing at matches).

For those of you going/have been to Alaska, how bad is the bug and mosquito problem? Is it necessary to spray clothes down with permethrin prior to making trip?

In my experience the mosquitos are fine in dry areas or windy areas or up high but Alaska has such wet areas with the spongy surfaces being breeding grounds it is no wonder the mosquito is their state bird. I have not been to this area in the summer so not exactly sure what to say they are like right now. Maybe someone local would have a current report if there was a late frost etc.

Personally I will be going fully prepared with sprays, treated cloths and a head net become sometimes it is like being in the UP of Michigan in the woods where the skeeters are so bad you could justify a flame thrower.

My buddy who I’m going with lives not too far from Cantwell and says they are terrible this year. I would definitely bring some along with a headnet

Thanks, started spraying the clothes down yesterday to get ready to pack. I'll definitely have to look into a headnet though.

Everyone needs to shoot Cody if you can make it. The uphill side was a cool course of fire this year.

I would have liked to have been there but the event sold out pretty fast. Next year have to pay closer attention to when the events go live for signups.

Just looked up the results from the Cody match, looks like @Carl Ross got 2nd in factory, congrats!

What would you guys say were the biggest reason for dropped shots at that match? I feel like i'd struggle with wind calls in terrain like that. Big difference from flat Midwest ranges.
