2025 NRL Hunter

For the Alaska match, they're alluding to needing to know the hunting regs. I've never shot an NRL match before. How do they usually integrate hunting regs into target selection? Or is this a novel thing?
Match directors can be pretty creative. They might have stages like shooting the legal ram “full curl” or a legal moose, “50”. Have a cheat sheet with you to be able to measure with your reticle.

Gotcha, so there would be multiple animals and you would identify the legal one? Or whatever else they come up with I guess

Good luck to all the Carbon Hill shooters today. Sucks I have to work but definitely not jealous of that humid hike y'all doing this morning lol

Don't come to Alaska, weather sucks
You had to be in Squad 5 cause I see myself and my shooting partner lol. We can all tell the truth, at least for us flat landers, that hike was no joke each day.

Glassing question. Glassing off a bag on the tripod or clipped on the tripod. Currently glassing off a bag, destroyed my Sigs falling off the tripod on a rock. Shout out to Sig for repairing them, no questions asked.
Curious how you all do it.

Clipped in. I even use a Wiser Nighthawk with an arca attachment on the bottom. I took the knobs off and made knurled nuts so the tension stays where I set it. Pop the binos off with the Wiser and clip in the gun..

I have done both and while I like clipping in I think it wastes a lot of time. Using a bag on top of the tripod is faster I think.

Has anyone shot a match with a 223? Any major hiccups? I imagine spotting misses at range can be difficult. How about impacts?

@Jimbee i thought you did a couple years ago but I can’t recall your feedback.

I was thinking about doing a one day match with mine. Primarily due to not having enough time for load dev and reloading with my 6.5cm. And I have a boat load of ADI 55gr on hand.

I have the lightweight plate and flat bag from ls wild velcrowed on. Start stage with that clipped in, plop tripod down and glass off the bag. I usually dump the plate and clip the gun in if im going to shoot off tripod after locating/ranging targets. I’ve come to like binos on the bag better than a clipped in to a grabby ballhead like an anvil for quick target locating.

If I were starting from scratch I’d probably go with a bigger plate that would hold a schmedium a bit better and start with that and maybe shoot off the bag more. Clipped in is nice when you’re moving to multiple shooting locations if they all call for tripod shooting.

I got a replacement set of kilo 10k g2 this week as well but they went bad on their own accord without being dropped.

I’ve shot a few 1-day PRS-style matches with a .223 and 75 ELD. Difficult to spot misses and impacts, especially if there’s any mirage. With 55s, you’ll likely lose a bunch of points from the spotters not being able to pick up your hits.

I have glassed clipped in a couple times and much prefer the freedom of movement of just tossing a bag on the apex of the tripod. I do not keep my binos tethered to my harness either, I like being able to set them down and move about the stage freely especially if shooting prone etc. I do not leave my binos on the tripod while on a stage unless I’m actively glassing/using them. Only time I like clipping them in at a match is when I am RO’ing.

I did. It was more difficult to spot misses and impacts. I totally blanked one of the longer range stages in some wind. All that being said, I enjoyed the match and I'd 100% do it again vs staying home because I didn't have ammo for a different gun.

I've been wanting to hop on a match, Western Hunt fest was putting on a NRL Hunter Style match in NM this year, planned on going but unfortunately some family stuff was going to make the trip tough.
Ive had a bit of confusion on the classes and MPF: I understand the MPF and how it works, but I am not 100% on if its applied for the skills class? The reason I ask is because I have 2 dedicated hunting rigs and a long range rig that I am currently loading for.

18" 6.5 CM 10lb 2oz pushes the 147ELDM @2565 =377k
24" 7RM,15lb 4oz pushing 162ELDM @3000 =486k
20" FT22-250, 14lb 5oz pushing 75VLD @ 3050 =228k

The 6.5 is my go to this year, at least I am trying to make this "light rifle" thing work. I wanted to take my 6.5 to prep for coues this year.
