Nice buck!Opening morning of rifle season in Northern California. Blew two shot opportunities, then finally tracked him down and made it happen. Pretty pumped!

Nice buck and a better memory.A zoner, first buck for my boy. He slipped us opening morning, caught him heading out the next night. Proud Dad moment for sure.
Gooood night! What side of I-5 is he on?Check out this toad I got last night
Hahaha I agree, i've always thought this, almost like a subspecies. Seems like a whole nother world from the literal temperate rainforest jungle of the PNW.California blacktails should be it's own forum . . .

On the east side…definitely bench-leg.Gooood night! What side of I-5 is he on?
They're definitely awesome in their own right, but just look so different from the one's we have farther north, and not just because they tend to be larger.Hahaha I agree, i've always thought this, almost like a subspecies. Nothing taking away from them, they and the country they roam are awesome in their own right, and they get big. Just very different from a lot Oregon, and all of Washington, BC and Alaska (of course 2/3rds of BC and up through Alaska are Sitka's).
Yep, more Mulie like. So much open country too. They seem to have longer tine length overall larger racks but with less mass, usually more spindly it seems. Lighter coloured racks. Where as rainforest Blacktail tend to be more compact and knarly in the rack, heavier, red/orange tinged or just very dark antlers. More pronounced white muzzle and distinct face/colour.They're definitely awesome in their own right, but just look so different from the one's we have farther north, and not just because they tend to be larger.
A stud regardless!On the east side…definitely bench-leg.
Wow what a dark heavy rack, good goin'Rattled in and shot this guy at 30 yards from a treestand. Coastal buck![]()
