We went back out to chukar country in the middle of January. Brought a couple home. Made contacts with at least 5 coveys each day, birds were spooky on the sunny sides. Seemed to hold a little better if they were on the shady side. It was definitely worth the drive to get a puppy on so many wild birds. He definitely improved and was proficient at working in on the coveys from a couple hundred yards out if the wind was cooperative. We need to work on how we approach them a little better so I get better shots and we get to pick a couple up before they fly across the canyons.

Looks like you’re in Utah? I’ve only been out a few times with my new gsp, and can’t get on them. those dang chukars are smart birds.

I was in Nevada. We got on a lot of them, just didn’t shoot many. I’ve tried Utah about 6 years ago and only seen one on that trip. On my way home from second trip to Nevada I cut through Utah down to I-70 and drove through some of the country I hunted on my Utah trip and wouldn’t have hunted it again after what I learned this year for habitat they like.

Temperatures were nice and cool this morning. Season is closed so I ended up buying 6 quail to get the girl some work. She found all of them and I even surprised myself and shot all six:)
