Does anyone have experience at both Kiowa Creek and Valhalla for training dogs? I just got a Gordon Setter that I am planning to start training with some help from trainers this fall when he is six months old, but no long-term board and train. It seems that both clubs have great options for field training, but I’m wondering if the no-shooting training area at Kiowa Creek is a big plus for a young dog that is just getting going.

I used to use Kiowa Creek a while back. It was okay. They would either set birds before, crate birds so you can set them or let you take the birds and train anywhere you wanted. Nothing fancy but it worked.

Send me a PM @rye_a

I'll take you out to see Andy Taylor at Steel Fork Kennels this weekend for free. Otherwise, I have heard Gary Ruppel at Kiowa is adequate.

My takeaway from having a mutt for a year and a half is that perfect practice is better than more practice. On top of that, the more practice part is likely to be detrimental if you don't understand what is taking place.

I took my setter to Hideaway Kennels. Ben is great. Its a "leave your dog for x weeks" type thing, so maybe more than you are looking for, but I guarantee you'll get the right training for the pup.
