I just saw that Idaho is allowing non-lead, full-bore conical bullets from the 2024 muzzleloader-only controlled hunts.

Nice article here:

During the last two years, I used 50 cal, 460 grain no excuses lead bullets with 80 grains of triple 7 fffg powder and ultra-light knight muzzleloader.

With these regulation changes, what are some of the best bullets you've used to improve accuracy and penetration compared to the no excuses bullets?

For a single bullet for both deer and elk, the muzzle-loader article and video above recommended power belt elr and thor bullets. Researching more there's lots of options like ballistic tip vs hollow point and lighting (one size fits all) vs hammer (customized to your bore), plastic vs metal base.

I’ll be shooting the 340 Hornady ELDx. 4 inches high at 100 gives me a point and shoot to 200 with 120 grs 777. That’s as far as I’ll shoot with my peep sight so that’s perfect for me.

Thors are great bullets.
I see you all over muzzy forums, and if you don't mind you seem like you know what you're talking about and I have some questions. I am shooting a Traditions Vortek with a 1/28 twist barrel. I'm planning on killing both an elk and a deer with it in Idaho this fall. Should I try the Thor bullets, or get the hornady bore pushers and the powerbelts and let them duke it out for top spot?

Well, if nothing else, I do have an opinion on muzzy topics. 😉 I’ve been hunting exclusively with a muzzy for about 35 years. I’m not a fan of anything Powerbelt makes. Certainly not for elk. The Hornady Bore Driver ELDX are a nice bullet and would be good for deer IMO. Fairly soft though - I’d go with a 300 gr Thor if I were hunting for both deer and elk.

Figured out I only have the muzzy for late season deer, so I went with the 338 Powerbelt Platinums and the 340 Bore Pushers. If neither of them shoot how I'd like I'll move to Thor or No Excuse bullets.
