Tough to tell, but I saw him again today on my driveway.







Glad to see he made it. He’s one of the bigger bucks I saw this breeding season, so I’ll bet he passed his genes on more than a little.

Trying to get permission to post a pic, but my cousin went out on his first WA blacktail hunt on the 31st, shot a 142" green score buck within 2 hours only a few hundred yard from a busy highway...truly unbelievable luck.

Wa late buck. Third buck killed within 300 yards in this patch of timber. Still hunting the timber ghost is a hunt like no other!
Kinda funny, I saw the 6mm thread here and it inspired me to take a 243 on this hunt.
I slapped this rifle together Tuesday night, load dev Wednesday, cut the barrel to 16" and confirmed zero and load was still good Thursday, drove to WA after wife got off work from Montana, bought lisence/tag in Spokane. 2 hrs sleep.
In the timber at shooting light, killed this buck about 11:30 Friday!
It helps I've hunted that patch for a lot of years!

I have to ask, what on earth possesses you to come to WA from Montana? If I weren’t a WA resident I’d certainly be picking Oregon (I may still go to Oregon in the next couple years). You must know something I don’t! Nonetheless, stellar buck, congratulations!

Well, I grew up there...
can't choose where you're born, you can leave asap though!

I spent many, many days in that valley so I'm returning to what I know. I have never been able to get enough of hunting blacktails is what brings me back.
I want to hunt Oregon too eventually. it would be super cool to kill a blacktail in every state they inhabit some day.

That makes sense! Best spot to hunt is usually the one you know. I have similar aspirations to kill one with every weapon type in WA. This year killed my best blacktail, first Muley, and first WT in 20 days. “Blue collar deer slam”? Maybe “triple crown”?

nice! I have yet to kill one of all 3 species in one year. That is a goal of mine though!
My biggest regret in my hunting past is not hunting blacktails for 17 years!
The last buck I killed was 2006 until last year. The top 3 bucks were killed within 300 yards of each other.
I definitely plan on hunting blacktails every year I'm able to from now on!
