2024/2025 Trapping thread

Why were we taught as kids that possums play "possum"? In my experience they hiss and spit like crazy.

There is one possum that lives by the bridge across the creek on my farm. My dad’s dog catches him about twice a week. Every time, he plays possum and the dog buries him in the yard (to soften him up) and then wanders off. Then the possum crawls away once the coast is clear. It’s been going like this at least a year.

Set a line this winter and enjoyed it more than I imagined, taken nearly 100 nest raiders off of 38 acres with very few DP’s and not even dented the population - would be nice to see fur prices rebound to help the turkey population around here…

So if I drop a opossum it's costing me money to stop and pick it up.

Was the top lynx albino or color phase?

Lynx cat, is bobcat if that's what your referring to, if so, no, Western cats have been going for around $1k average, with several state auctions having top cats around $2k.

A lot of those lesser priced furs to me are still worth it if your already skinning and stretching other furs.
I sent in several low priced furs with the rest of mine and essentially it paid for shipping and my commission fee.

And, back in the early 80’s, I picked up roadkill possums, threw in the pickup bed, dropped off with a buyer, (yes, just like I found it-no skinning) and averaged $1.50-2.00 each. And in a southern state.

Starting to see a lot of the roadkill be smaller skunks, raccoons, and coyotes. This year's young must be starting to move out on own around here.

Don’t be like me.

Got hit effing around with the free Bridgers.

Hurt more than I’d like it to but less than the time I dropped a log splitter on a 2 5/16” trailer ball with my thumb in the middle.

It took "this long" for my fingernail to grow back out.

Calling it officially good today.

I had to superglue it back together as it grew around 6 times too. Twice at Shoot2Hunt.

PITA.

Careful with those jaws, fellas.
