I’m thinking about doing the same, need to make some waxed dirt too.
I am planning to switch to dip this coming year but there's still a lot of wax on these traps after boiling.

I'm going to do another boil in fresh water and test for viability.

Dip may be a "new trap" thing.

I watched a demo at a workshop this year and dipping makes waxing look stupid.

I bought a dozen and a half NO-BS K9 Jr's and they come dipped/painted, they're smooth.
Got about a dozen other types that I bought to try and will dip them too.

How many acres are you trapping? The numbers just seem mind blowing. My turkey population sucks……and this is probably why

You're exactly right. Way more nest raiders out there than you realize

Dip is definitely for new traps.

Wax dies hard. I even hit this gear with brake parts cleaner after boiling.

Maybe I'm all wet, but I think I'm going to try Rust-Oleum after degreasing. Going to try one and see how it works.

Making 2 dozen trap drags.
Trying a couple different ways to attach the trap and chain, so far 5 chain links of #3 chain appears to be the best option.
Anyone else have a good suggestion for the best way to fasten the quick link and chain?
