If the goal was to get as close as possible without hitting the target my cold bore shot today nailed it. Not even sure how it didn’t hit but oh well. Second shot (shot without knowing where the first went) hit left edge of plate.

First round is top of t post. Will rotate pic from computer tomorrow.

Sitting at 395 against a tree. Shot 416 for cbc and this is a much steadier setup.

First round hit today prone at 395 or so. Left edge of plate again….

Finished 4th shot today. Definitely showed I'm not as good as I thought/hoped.
Hit at 640 and barely snuck it in at 600.
Then missed at 667 and 672. Both shots were sitting with gun on tripod. Wanted to access not being prone and it's not as steady.
Moved up to 458 on way to pick up target and centered it. That felt good but overall I need to be more consistent with practicing on real world shot situations.

Baseball has been consuming my little families life lately. I got done coaching All Stars practice tonight and my oldest had another practice for travel ball so I took my six year old out to shoot. He's been asking if he could do the contest that his brother and I did so I created an account for him and we shot tonight.

I shot at 615 yards. Got on the edge of the 10" circle. My targets need new paint.
270 WSM
Wind was in our face in a left to right direction.
Temp was 80°

Day 2
Cole and I went out to shoot again. We had to run to get some gas first so we got some chocolate milk and a bag of donuts. Great morning hanging out with my boy.

His shot went great and he put one right on top of his shot from last night, right near 400 yards out. I was impressed by my little 6 year old. The stock is a little long for him and it takes him a little time to find the target and get the crosshairs where he wants them but watching his face light up when he heard the steel was awesome.

I shot 1 shot today at 615 again.
This morning we were at 74° and 24.45 inHg. The wind was at our back right to left today. I hit just left and low of center today. I am happier with this round of cold bore vs the first attempt in the original challenge.

After I get these targets painted I am going to do this with 3 more guns. I want to try it with my 270 Win, 6.5x284 and the little Howa .223 Ackley that Cole is shooting.

Shooting 450yards. Slight gusts but nothing I was worried about.

Tikka 243, viper pst Gen 1 sfp, shooting factory 75gr Vmax at 3225fps (drop verified)


Put all 4 in the paint after missing both cold bore shots.
The challenge was great because it’s going to provoke a gear change from me. Need to get a better tripod and longer legs for my Javelin bipod.
Also need to practice significantly more at building stable shooting positions from the field. I was able to steady up after some wiggling. Wasn’t near as steady on my CBC shots as I was trying to “hurry”.
