2022 Blacktail Bucks

There are some nice bucks in this thread!! My only real regret in leaving Oregon for Idaho is that Blacktail hunting is no longer close by. I have shot a few bucks, but the only hogs I have seen have beat me.....and it isn't so bad being beat when you get a glimpse of what beat you. All my Blacktail hunting has been in Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas counties.

I got a really awesome 2x2 this past fall. He’s got quite a bit of mass and measured at 17” wide. He’s the widest I’ve killed. Quite happy with the characteristics of him.

I’ll also post a hunting partners 3x3 we killed the following day. Both bucks were road-system and killed on the last two days of the season.

Looking forward to next season.

That monster forky is freaking awesome, I have killed 2 mature forkies, one 4.5, one 5.5yrs, but that’s weren’t those really heavy antlered fork’s like yours, it’s just a matter of time, but certainly a bucket list blacktail for me… it’s the one buck I want that I haven’t killed.

Top 3 biggest framed bucks I have seen was a forky, and I had already killed a buck when I saw him, and I could have shot him with my bow several times… he must’ve known, haha

Great buck!

That’s a dandy!!! POW alpine?
Thank you, Yes sir! Early September. Got there after 1.5 hour boat ride, 6 hour hike. I was exhausted, I was planning to hunt for 5 days, but shot him the first night when I was setting up camp, haha. It was good thing. A storm brewed the next day and our 1.5 hour boat ride turned into 3.5 hours with gusts up to 45 mph. That was in a 21 foot center console. It sure made things interesting.

Thank you! Is was so super stoked to find him. I passed a very similar forky in 2017 and regretted it ever since. Similar characteristics, lots of mass and big bases. When I saw this one I didn’t hesitate. I’m not an expert at aging deer by any means but looking at his teeth compared to the other nice euros I have and his body size I believe he is in the 5.5 year age class.

We Had a “good” season. Few Sitka blacktail bucks 👍

I posted this in the 2022 mule deer meat pole thread and am now posting it in the blacktail thread. California D3-5 opening morning rifle season. I am quoting WeiserBucks quote of my original post because I cannot figure out how to post anything other than a sideways photo. He was kind enough to fix it for me.
Nice, thumbs up D Zones Ca.
