2021 Fitness Goals Thread

For 2021 my goals are:

Continue to limit chewing or kick the habit altogether.

Do not have an energy drink (bang, reign, redbull, etc) or soda in 2021. Both are currently a very bad addiction.

Incorporate morning walks and stretch session into routine even if I'm hiking that day.

Do at least one hour of strengthening workouts a day.
Well I did pretty good for January.

I missed one strengthening workout day.

January miles not including hikes:
Cardio: 89 miles
Mtn Biking: 56 miles

Those are rookie numbers so I'll bump those up this month.

This year our family (including two teenagers) made the commitment to work out together. Although the kids had been actively pursuing sport related activities for years, the unpredictable challenges during the last year have impacted their training efforts and competitions. So, we created a flexible schedule and routine that matches personal goals with cardio and strength training for each of us.

Little late to the thread, but here we go.
This year I plan to drop and maintain weight 150-156, currently at 177. Back in December I was fat and unhappy at 197, chalk it up to pregnancy sympathy weight or just plain laziness. I’ve been hammering the indoor bike 4-6 days a week for an hourish a day as well as some KB work and HIT workouts with weighted pack. I have also ditched alcohol for good. I never drank more than 2-3 beers a week but just can’t seem to find the value in them if my goal is to be my best and motor up the mountains!
Good luck everyone!

kind of a short month, made shorter by a week where we never got above 0 F, but still got 114 miles (most on snowshoes) and 24,570' of gain which puts me pretty close to my mileage goal and a little ahead on my elevation gain goal.

strength training was very close to not missing a day (twice a week), my squats and deadlifts max went up 10 lbs and bench & overhead press 5 lbs at the beginning of the month, both are ready to be bumped by the same amount for March.

so no complaints here :)

Run an ultra marathon... 55k in March! Just finished my 12th or 13th half marathon yesterday 7th place overall, plan to do a couple more of those along with my 3rd marathon end of October.. (I know I know terrible timing)!!!

I thought we should get the ball rolling with a 2021 fitness goal thread as our fitness and nutrition goals are already beginning to filter through our minds. Post your goals here!

train weights 2-3 times a week
family hike / snowshoe on weekends

I got a bit behind with my back injury and it took several weeks to get back in the swing of things but I finally had a good mileage week last week. I also got a bit of snowshoeing in for February which was fun to change things up a bit. I'm just over 30 miles behind schedule for my goal and a few thousand feet behind on the elevation gain but I'm confident I can catch back up in the coming months as I'm not dealing with the back injury and the weather is warming up.

Trail Running Miles- 161
Hiking Miles- 48
Mtn. Biking Miles- 0
Total Trail Miles- 209 of 1,500 goal for the year
Total Elevation Gain- 32,000 of 225,000 goal for the year

Well finished the 55k trail race today!! 2 big hills “mountains” and some hidden climbs made for a challenging course! 34.5 miles 7:20 mins 🥵

the next one will be flat! 😂

Great thread here. Glad to see everyone wanting to be healthier. For me:

Continue with a Whole30 mindset, but probably wont do another one (have done two so far)
Reduce sugar intake as much as possible.
Keep on with no sodas
Wake up early! (this is a big one for me, 2020 made me lazy)
After waking up early, be productive, (getting kids school lunches ready, making coffee, possibly breakfast, feed the dog, clean up a tad)
Start working out again (starting off slow with pushups, planks, light weight training, and moving up to running/jogging
Hike more and more
Practice shooting bow/rifle
I'm sure there's some more I will come up with but that should be a good start.

well March was a good month for me, 148 miles and 30,330' of gain- which puts me close to spot on for 1700 miles and a bit ahead on 250,000' of gain

a fair number of those miles on snowshoes

my strength training was pretty steady, might have missed one or two days the whole month- added 10 lbs to both my squat and deadlift and 5 lbs to my bench and overhead press, I'll be adding the same here shortly as I finish up the 4th week of Wendler

highlights were a bare bones bivy in the Elkhorns (via snowshoes) and a three day trip into a cabin that sits at 8600' (bagged a close by peak too) all on snowshoes as well

I'm starting to get primed up for the Bob Marshall Wilderness Open which is at the end of May, have several forays planned into the Bob to scout potential routes

MTwarden, you are an inspiration to us all.

I'm chugging along. I'm at 317 miles, mostly running, some hiking. That puts me on pace for 1,250 miles. A bit behind the goal of 1,500, but I should make that up pretty easily.

I'm at 19,590 feet of elevation gain, significantly behind pace fpr the 100,000 foot goal, but I should catch up on that now that the trails are opened up.

I've done at least 50 pushups and at least 10 pullups every single day so far this year.

I've made 21 summits, which puts me on track for 75. (The "summit" goal has morphed a bit into just hitting certain points on my running loops that make me work a bit for altitude gain.)

I missed a few strength training sessions. But my knee has healed up without issue; the trails have opened up; I'm feeling strong and fit and ready to add some intensity to the running. Life is good.

just daily grinds the one goal is a running 12 month 400k elevation gain getting closer🤙

I'm a bit late with my report from March but it was a pretty good month and I made up a few miles that I lost earlier in the year from my back injury. I got out the mtn. bike for a few quick rides this month as well, which was a fun change of pace. Here's where I'm at through the first quarter of the year.

Trail Running Miles: 284
Hiking Miles: 50
Mtn. Biking Miles: 18
Total Trail Miles: 352 of 1,500 mile goal
Total Elevation Gain: 54,000 of 225,000 goal

Slightly behind where I'd like to be but now that things are warming up I should be able to get some catch up miles in. I have a Turkey tag for this month so wish me luck!

Here's my report through the end of April:

Trail Running Miles- 396
Hiking Miles- 67
Mtn. Biking Miles- 29
Total Trail Miles- 492 of 1,500 mile goal
Total Elevation Gain- 75,700 of 225,000 goal

April was a pretty good month and I'm now back on track and hoping I can get a bit ahead of schedule during May. Feeling pretty good overall.

^ nice! :)

I had a pretty good month, missed a few strength training workouts, but hit some good miles and elevation. I ended the month with an exclamation point- 36 miles Thursday and Friday with 8900' of gain (close to half on snowshoes). 182 miles and 40,000' of gain total for the month. I think roughly a fourth of those miles on snowshoes.

May should be a good month (God willing) as I do the Bob Marshall Wilderness Open at the end of the month.
