2021 Bear Success Thread

3 years of passing multiple bears, and playing cat and mouse with this Bruin finally paid off! Russellolofson on insta if ya care, haha.
Next up will hopefully be my 12 year olds bear...and my buddy that helped me pack this beast off the mountain.

Successful for brown bear on afognak about 4 weeks ago. Boar; my first brown bear but not my first bear overall. The two guys who came with me had never been bear hunting before so they had a blast...he wasn't very far away and the guys who came with were s****ing bricks. Boar wasn't considering charging so I took my time and dropped him. Aint a booner, but I'm happy with the bear. Guess its time to wait the 4 years and apply again, in the meantime there's a dall somewhere with my name on it :ROFLMAO:

I honestly don’t know, haha. I was so worried about taking care of the meat and hide I didn’t take any sort of measurements at all. I should have the skull back in a month or so and can update then...It’s definitely big big though. :)
The few guys/warden that have seen it are saying booner for sure 🤷🏻‍♂️.

After 12 days across 3 hunts I arrowed an excellent boar spot and stalk this week. He was leaving beer can diameter scat around that I first saw on May 9. Saw him a few times but never got close until Tuesday. We’d had 33 straight hours of rain....when it quit at 2:00 PM Tuesday, I knew I needed to be out and was betting “Beer Can Bear” was feeling the same. In my experience black bears are not as active in the rain, they’d rather hole up under a fir tree somewhere. Anyway, an hour later I’d found 3 fresh definitive scat piles and knew he was feeding along a logging road I stalking. Luckily he’d turned around and was feeding back my way. Ended up with a 35 yd near broadside shot. Spitfire went thru and hit rocks on the sidehill beyond him. He made it 25 yds, about 20 of it straight down some really thick regen, I had him skinned, quartered, and all the neck and rib meat off him and packed up to the logging road by 7 PM. Too big to do anything with by myself but roll over, but I always break them down in the field regardless of size.

He is all cut up for either stew/soup meat or ground for burger used in Mexican foods, meat loaf, chili and vacuum sealed. We enjoy spring bear for that purpose.

No pictures as I don’t post them on the net.

Good luck to the bear hunters. I’ve got another tag reserved for a monster if I see one. Taking out an old hunter that is trying for his first archery bear next week for a 4 or 5 day hunt.

Helped a buddy get his first bear this week. He’s pretty pumped!

Crazy healed injuries on this bear. Ribs and jaw. Crazy what conditions these critters live through.

Think the skull went just shy of 18”. Bear squared well over 6.

Got my first last night!!! Super happy with it, 20 yard shot, I heard it above me so I stood still and it popped out 20 yards from me on the logging road, we made eye contact and I raised my rifle and shot as it jumped off the road, thought I missed until I walked below the road and found it piled up from a heart shot 10 feet below. Super grateful :)

Ak Spring grizzly. We chased a decent one around a few days before finding this guy. Smoked hams and breakfast sausage in progress.
Note- the night after this we had the meat and hide all taken care of we watched a cow moose with twin “hours” old calves walk past us. 10 minutes later a large blonde grizzly nose to the ground emerged from the brush and followed their route down the creek.
