2021 Bear Success Thread

Sorry, late to the party (I'm new here--I used to think RS was an off-roading/4WD website)

TLDR: first confirmed Kooter kill: B&C lifetime black bear less than hour in field; don't hate

Black Bear Redemption hunt

Really long story less long:
this was only my second time hunting--the first was a Prince William Sound spring 2021 black bear hunt I was invited to--I shot and missed at several bears. Felt like an idiot and was pissed. Came home, spent months at the range and found the first available black bear hunt which was CO rifle season that same year. During my wife's family reunion in Granby (sorry honey, me and the boys have to go hunt, we'll be back in a few days lol) we drove to up to northern CO and less than an hour after parking and praying for success we stumbled into "big Joe" less than 100yds away. One shot thru the heart, dropped after 20yds. We camped out that night, and headed back the next day for a 36 hour turnaround, Boone & Crockett lifetime 21 3/16", 9 year old, 7' squared boar. Wifey was happy we weren't gone long and at the same time I ruined my boys' idea of what a "hunt" is (wow dad that's cool lets go do that again--great job on your first hunt lol).
