Haven't gotten out yet, still out in the Gulf at work. I got a good load for my 280AI dialed in before heading out here so it's all ready for spring bear season when I get back to North Idaho.

Red, nutrient dense, fat, and heavy. I prefer Dall sheep, Sitka Blacktail, Caribou, Mt Goat, Elk, and moose to it.
I like it for making sausage, pepperoni, or salami. Stuff where ya want a higher fat content. Mixed with pork it makes for good stuff.

Second this! Bear salami is awesome. Even my wife likes it, and she typically wont eat salami. Never tried sausage yet, but im planning on some if I manage to connect with one this spring

Yup, best salami I've ever had. I really like bear summer sausage as well. With some nice aged cheddar its incredible.

Love summer sausage and jerky. Made Philly bear cheese steaks last night for the first time clearing the freezer. Everyone said they are a hit.

Can't believe my luck, got my second bear last weekend. Wasn't even planning on going, but bad weather forecast made me think, "Well I'd rather be out hunting than sitting around the house." Apologies for the censored photo, don't want my ugly mug on the internet.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for advice and tips!

Nice work. Looks a lot like North Idaho. I'm hoping to tag a bear when I get back home in a week.

Got a couple this year . 6' and around 7' . The bigger one was my friends, beautiful bear I think it was 18.7
Beautiful, congratulations! Would love to hear more. If you don't mind sharing, what's your strategy? Do you cruise around on a boat looking for bears?

Yes sir, glass from the boat stalk on the beach. In some places you can simply beach your boat, in other places you use a skiff or raft while your boat is "indian anchored" off shore. It depends on tides and the "slope"of the beach, long gentle grade beaches require the boat to be further out so it won't go dry. We spent 7 days on the boat. We saw 17 bears ,we were a bit early as we had a long winter this year but there are advantages to being early, prime bears although you see less and far less pressured bears....

Love it, sounds awesome! Such a different type of hunting than I've ever done.

Got it done last week. Bad shot had to track him for a long ways. Range of emotions was incredible. So happy I was able to find him. Took almost 4 hours just to find the first bit of blood. Ended up being a liver shot. No guts at least. He died in a creek and it got cold that night I think the meat should be good! 2nd year in a row here in Idaho. Should be close to the same as last years bear in size maybe a tad bigger and that was a 19” and change bear. Excited for some pulled bear sandwiches in the future.
Enjoy!
