I hunted Maine for grouse 5 years ago, there's a good chance I'll be taking the dog back up and chasing them again this fall. I started looking at other seasons that will be in, I'll likely buy some turkey tags as well (could have killed all I wanted last time I was there). I saw where bear season is in. I've killed bear before, and I vaguely remember seeing one when I was in Maine last time.
For people in that area, is it worth it to buy a bear tag if I won't be hunting with dogs or over bait? I don't expect it to be a slam dunk, but don't want to waste money if chances are near zero. I would be in the NW portion of the state.
