2014 Bear Season

Hey folks, just wondering who is all bear hunting this year? With Idaho and Alaska's bear baiting season being opened for about a week now, anyone get their baits out?

I am patiently waiting to nail down a place to do just that up here and for some snow to melt. With that, I also do not want to start baiting too early just to have it taken over by a grizzly and run my barrels dry (that advice was given to me by a Rokslider and I appreciate it)

I did some scouting the past few weekends and headed out again this weekend to do some more. I think I have an area lined up. Hopefully I am far enough a way from town to make it worthwhile and not have too many others in the area. Either way we plan to have a good season or die trying :)

I plan to take out three people who have never seen a bear in the wild, in hopes to get them their first. If things go as planned, it should be a very fun time.

Anyone else excited??

Take care and good luck!

Nick

Seasons been open a few weeks here in MT, I'm heading out this weekend to check things out, but my area still has quite a bit of snow so we'll see.

Good luck there in Montana, getting a bear there is an accomplishment for sure. I will be down there enjoying your state next week for some long beards!

Yeah, I have heard of a few grizzlies out and about here in MT, but no black bears around where I hunt yet. I am sure they are out but no major traffic yet. I will be getting after it soon though. There's still a lot of snow up high...where I usually see the most bears. The valley floor has 'em but access gets tougher there.

I've seen two black bears so far this spring in SW MT, but they were pretty low at around 7,000 ft. Like mt100gr. said, still lots of snow up high, but looking like it should be a fun spring chasing bears.

This is my first time baiting bears here in Alaska and to say I'm excited is an understatement! Met a good buddy who is going to show me the ropes can't wait!

I was just out trying to get my baits out here in Wyoming. The snow was mostly gone, the roads to get close to them are all closed, which isn't a bad thing. Just have to find a new route and put a few extra miles on the boots.
Good luck to everyone baiting this spring.

Been putting a lot of miles on looking for a bear to spot and stalk here in North Idaho unit 1. Got a glimpse of one after some predator calling and thats it...

Roy sure seems to be a bear killer!!!! Turkey opens tomorrow in Utah, Im headed to Idaho for bear next month. Gonna head up set some baits and scout then go back the end of May to hunt for 6 days.. Sounds like we will have 3 of us with bows, the other 2 will bring rifles just in case. Im determined to use my bow though!

Roy has never had a bear hunter go past 3 days...Until me...The guy after me, killed one the first or second day out with Roy. That man is a PREDATOR.

Shaun...I may need a brace for my August return! Tore both my ACL and my Miniscus on this hunt...

Thanks Shaun...My brother is a Physical Therapist and one of my best friends is a Doc, so I'm sure I'll get all kinds of advice. I will be looking for a brace though as I don't plan on having the ACL fixed until after hunting season (hopefully)...Too much going on! I'll let you know if I have any brace questions...

Still too much snow where I hunt bears. It usually pretty good by now, but this year there is still 3 feet of snow on the valley bottom and all the south facing slopes are still snowed in. Spent 4 days soaking wet looking at fog.

We don't have a spring bear hunt in Colorado anymore. No bait, or hounds, so i'll be trying to still hunt one this fall. Maybe some calling too.

Face to face on the ground adds some excitement, and I have only one shot in the muzzy sidelock. Unless the bear will wait until I reload. :)
