I just don’t know if my first pick would be a 270, especially an older one from the Cold War. Aren’t sheep like super tough to kill with bullet resistant shoulders ? Plus you have to shoot lead free which might act weird at 14k feet being so light and fast you might not need to hold over hair until 700 or so.
Fat part of elevation post where it meets the duplex on top of his back should get you out to 850

As a bowhunter, and out of respect for the ram. 400 yds. Max.

That’s the “bio dude”…. Explaining how to measure a book sheep, because, you know, we only shoot book sheep. No, she was explaining a legal ram. Book is 165, I don't care about book for this tag.

And he’s going to “YOLO Basin”. This is a one way tag. To. You Only. Live. Once. At 12.8k. By Caravan. Using Walkie Talkies

So serious question. What is the purpose of the meeting? Seems fairly basic. Were the other hunters not really hunters? I mean I bet the 80 year old has some stories that could rival yours. Was there not a way to defer based on your extensive qualifications?

I just picture it going like this.

Typical barstool biologist. Get a masters, spend 20 years in a tent, learn your species.

Isn't the .270 just the little bit older 6.5?

Necked down, modern bullet for the time.
More powder. .350 Ruger, necked down to a .264. I get 1,000 rounds, barrel shot out.

Do you have your nutritional supplements lined out? Stuff to get you going. Stuff to keep you going. Stuff to replenish electrolytes. Stuff to help you recover. Stuff to help you sleep. Stuff for altitude. Etc?

All of it. Everything in my control@65 is dialed in. Dropped 21 lbs. Anyone care to sheep hunt@12k feet for miles? I am nervous and have trained for this for months. My pack is 28 lbs. Great glass, 7 hours/day behind glass. Adventure of a lifetime. My guide has now booked 5/6 tagholders.

Satellite phone should be real good up there next to the satellites at 12,800. Keep us posted ROAL Reaper! We’re counting on you.

I have a bow mulie hunt the next week, burned 14 pts. So this sheep hunt could drag into Mid sept.
