2-piece Battle Belt Style Setups, Anyone Else use Them?

Does anybody else run an inner-outer 2 piece battle belt setup while backcountry hunting? I run an Agilite Magnetix that I’m trying to get dialed in.

Generally I use it to fill the role of carrying a Handgun, Multi-tool, IFAK, dump pouch/water bottle pouch, and maybe a spare mag. This setup is meant to be another line of sustainment to be used with a chest rig or bino harness in any situation without my full pack with me. I’m looking for recommendations on a slim IFAK pouch that works well in conjunction with a pack as mine is currently too bulky and rides too high up, as well as suggestions for general purpose/admin style pouches that work well for backcountry hunting specific use cases.

I usually do 2-5 night trips in Montana and Arizona for context. FNG so let me know if there is a better thread to post this in.

I don’t use a two belt system for anything, they just seem too bulky to me. I know a lot of dudes that use them for work and range training though, but not hunting.

I have been using a fanny pack for several years now. I use it for both edc and hunting.

Interesting, how big of a fanny pack and what kind of gear are you carrying in it if you don’t mind me asking?

I got my mainly for range use as well, it isn’t noticeably bulky at all (other than my IFAK). The only issue I’ve had with it so far is a hotspot on one hip due to it not being balanced how I currently have it set up.

I'm generally curious how your using a battle belt for back country style hunting. When I think backcountry I'm visualizing the use of a pack to take camp and gear in and out. I could see the use of a battle belt for more road/ day type hunting. With the use of a pack system the hip belt would interfere with any sort of battle belt system. Are you packing in the battle belt for day use and leaving your pack at camp? If so why not just use your pack in day mode vs using an alternative setup?

As far as IFAK have you checked out Dark Angel Medical? I use their DARK slim and am generally satisfied with it's size. I also typically sick it in one of the pockets of my K4 for easier access and have a pistol on the hip belt. Am I as agile with a pack on vs a battle belt? No, but for long days the pack is much more comfortable vs the squeezing required of a belt to handle the weight more generally focused lower on the hips vs a pack.

As this is my first year trying out the 2 piece belt I’m still getting the system worked out. I’m still running an internal frame backpacking pack while I save up for a hunting specific pack, and the one I currently use I have no issue with fitment of the pack over the belt other than my IFAK, which I just take off of its hook and loop and put into my pack when hiking in or out.

Mainly, I like to have something on me at all times in the backcountry that can take care of basic medical, sustainment, and self defense for myself, dog, and lady. I’ve found myself in what could be potentially compromising situations should an emergency arise after long archery stalks or what was supposed to be just a quick check on the other side of a glassing knob that turns into hours away from my full pack.

I’m certainly not opposed to the idea of keeping your pack with you 100% of the time but I find it simply isn’t realistic on most trips backcountry outings I go on, including a lot of fishing and hiking trips on top of hunting. Once I upgrade to an Exo, Initial Ascent, or SG pack, maybe my mind will change and I’ll never want it to leave my side.

My fanny pack is made by spiritus systems. I carry a spare mag, IFAK, flashlight, lighter, leatherman, and an altoids timing with my phone cable an extra battery and tool for my pistol optic, inside the main pouch. In the smaller zippered pocket I carry a mask and a bandana. I have two “inserts” that the items are attached to for organization. Sometimes I’ll even put my wallet inside.

Please post up some photos of your rigs. When I take my teenage sons out on winter cow hunts i carry the only pack with winter gear and food for all of us day hunting but I would love to see some belt rig ideas for my sons to carry some of their odds and ends.
