Well this is already an awesome thread. Do you mind sharing some of your preferred holsters for carry?

The holsters I use now are made by someone that doesn’t sell commercially. However, there seems to be some close designs available- all appendix inside the waistband.

I haven’t shot Kimbers in probably 15 years. Historically they were very spotty and with lots of MIM parts.

I believe all 1911s are not drop safe, correct? Only thing that’s made me shy away from picking up a Staccato. I know they just came out with the new pistol series to make them drop safe.

70s series are not drop safe. 80s series and pistols like the Staccato HD series which use the 80s series firing pin block design are drop safe.

No- not correct. Series 80 and Schwartz designs block the firing pin and are 100% drop safe. Also- “Drop safe” means different things. Even an original is more drop safe than almost all shotguns and hunting rifles.
However, technically if you drop a series 70 1911 just right on concrete from a high enough height- it can fire. But, Ti firing pins and extra power firing pin springs make that an almost functional impossibility. So while technically possible- 1911’s have been around, carried, and used for over 100 years and it just doesn’t happen. For instance- there are more instances of Glocks with aftermarket triggers and CZ’s firing when dropped in action competition than 1911/2011’s. It’s a much ado about nothing.

The taped grip safeties are just from when I had a major injury and didn’t have the hand muscle volume to deactivate them. The only guns that still have them are the Colt CQB pistol and a Staccato- both are only used for USPSA, and are only still taped because I haven’t removed it. Properly timed/sensitized grip safeties pose no issue at all in deactivating.

Im not a huge pistol shooter but I couldn't pass this up for the price. I had to order some parts and assemble it correctly but got it for well under half price. It's smooth, weighted perfectly, and just feels great in the hand. Plus I'm about 1.5hrs away from their shop.

Sorta along this line, is there a good resource for learning how to tune a CRF action, like an M70? Something besides gunsmithing school I mean.
