1 premier custom rifle vs 2 custom tikkas - what choice to make?!

another vote for two tikkas. I personally don’t see the point of a super premium custom rifle unless you’re a whiz bang long distance competitor. For hunting purposes, tikka.

Build 2 that are identical in stock, barrel weight, scope selection, and ballistics if you can… that’s always made a lot of sense to me.

I went this route recently with 3 almost identical tikkas in 1-8 22-250, 6mm Creed, and 6.5 Creed.

I have a semi custom tikka and I have a full custom. Building my second full custom right now for my daughter and for me to use as a backpacking rifle. The full custom is better in every way. Fit, finish, balance, groups, trigger, eye appeal, weight. Only thing the tikka wins in is price. A rifle is a multi decade investment, I’m not going to get worked up over 1000-2000 dollars.

My opinion is predicated on having the right gunsmith build the rifle.

I think it’s the wrong way of looking at it, comparing a Tikka in one category and a “Premium” in the other.

I sold my “Premium” AnTi X and moved to 2 Tikka’s. Will not be going back. Would have done so even if the Tikka action was double the price.
Shhhhhhhh. Let’s not give Tikka any ideas.

This too, Tikka prices have gone up in just the past year and part of my wants to tell people to get a custom, rather than tell them to do what I did myself.

Plenty of people are happy with customs, and as @Article 4 and @Ucsdryder show prefer them. And it is not my money, so I don't think it would be bad to advise people in a way I would not take myself... Though not good either. I've also never had a custom, so.

Took the advice gents, scored both used unfired at my LGS for a hair over 1200.

I keep using an old $200 receiver and good barrel to show the kids expensive actions aren’t required. A 1/2 MOA barrel still shoots 1/2 MOA and a 1 MOA barrel shoots 1 MOA.

I used to keep two identical rifles - same caliber, scopes, stocks, and luckily the same ammo shot well in both. I’d kind of like to do that again when another $200 action comes along.

Both for 1200 was a smoking deal. Should be some deals on prefits around Christmas, what calibers?

Go with a custom, a little bit of money difference is nothing when compared to the years you’ll have it. You can pick and choose exactly what you want the rifle to be.

I know tikkas shoot great but if I'm building a rifle I want it the way I want it and not have to basically strip everything off it and replace.

Life is too short to not like what I’m shooting.

In all reality how much are you really saving? If I bought a Tikka I’d change the stock, bottom metal, and most likely the barrel. So in esssnce, I’m just using the action, which I’d want UM to trick out anyway.

Primarily wanting to build an 18” 6 creed, then not decided on the other. Maybe a 20” 6.5 PRC

Nice I am getting a 20” 6cm put together, just waiting on my xlr chassis, I have another .308 tikka that might stay the same for a while or might get another makeover
I’m trying to find an XLR for whichever of these turns into the 6 creed. See them used on here every once in awhile. Have time to wait it out. What ore fits do you reccomend? I built one a fluted 18” from PBB for around 650 but don’t see a ton of other options other than proof. Pretty much over carbon barrels. Want to go back to steel.

Personally, I would build the 18" 6c and then run it for a season or so and see what you do/don't like about it before building the other. Nothing wrong with leaving the other one alone for a while.
Smart, may end up being the move. No problem leaving one stock for a backup.

I ended up snagging a x-caliber carbon on their Halloween sale. Not attached to carbon by any means but seemed like a good deal. I almost bought a PBB before that hybrid lite I think. I have my barrel already which is nice. Seems well made, but can’t speak to it yet until I start shooting it.
