1/2 or 3/4 ton truck for Slide In Pop-up Camping

I've seen some threads discussing these slide in pop-up style campers that have become popular. Didn't find the answer to some of my questions though. So, I'll start with the first item to me. A newer truck.

1. Do I need a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck when the camper is installed and both mine and the wife's clothes, some supplies, are loaded. I'm concerned on GVW getting too heavy and the truck not handling well on the highway as well as forest and park roads.
2. 3/4 ton will have a larger bed as well, which should mean a slightly roomier pop-up?
3. 1/2 ton will be more fuel efficient and easier to maneuver on mountain roads I would imagine.

Suggestions on 1/2 and 3/4 ton models that you are pleased with.
Seems like all the late model GM, Ford, Dodge have issues with both weight trucks.

Get a 3/4 ton. Even if a 1/2 ton would handle the weight today, the 3/4 ton will allow you to load up the truck, tow a trailer, etc when needed. I’ve owned 3/4 ton trucks for 30 years, 1/2 tons prior to that, and there’s never been a single time that I wished I had a 1/2 ton but the 15 years I owned 1/2 tons I was wishing I had a 3/4 ton several times.

Just pick a brand you like and go with it, new or used. All brands have issues and always have, most vehicles have very few issues, social media just raises awareness.

I'd rather have to much truck (if there is such a thing) than not enough truck....

The *minimum* needed to keep your wife happy.

It's easy to have a 10,000lb whale that sucks on and off-road if you're not diligent.

I'd opt for a 2500 and a Project M or similar.

I have a smaller pop-up that I use on my 21 F150. It has the 7050 lb tow pkg and Ive added Air Lift bags. I also tow my 8’ enclosed trailer at the same time. It handles just fine. All the same, if I did it over, Id probably get a 3/4 ton. BTW, the box isn’t necessarily

any bigger on a 3/4 vs 1/2. You can get all sizes with either truck.

I had an f350 and a 10' slide in camper, loved it. I now have an f150 and have looked long and hard for a camper option and there are none that I would buy. You can buy a Lance for about 50K, after that you're missing options that to me, make the camper viable.

Yes you could. But not a lot of demand lately so they are discontinuing them from what I understand.
